here’s a screenshot from a video i’m uploading right now! it’ll be here, pending shitty farm internet, this evening sometime - you’ll get a link later when it does!
+ making plans w crosstones alums for the end of the month - stoked to see all those people/maine again sooooooon
+ first full week of being at the farm in nh and it feels GOOD. we spent one of the sunny days subsoiling one of the fields. if you don’t know what that means it’s a grueling process of going through each bed slowly with a hook attached to the tractor. the hook snags on GIANT BURIED BOULDERS (and okay smaller rocks too). then everyone goes in with shovels, hands, a rock pry bar (literally a giant crowbar for rocks), and all their might to dig em out. it’s the kinda work you love to hate: really hard, makes you wicked sore, and, when it’s over, you feel badass. and like you need a stiff drink and a nap.
+ pre-ordered this book from these folx!! if you don’t know adam or his work PLEASE ask me about it (or just ask him//them - @gnade // @wearepioneerspress). he writes great nonfiction/zine stuff and compelling, twisty, darkly comic, REAL fiction - haven’t read a bad thing by him. anything you can find at pioneers press is gonna be brilliant in some kinda way, though, so check out all their stuff! and sign up for their newsletter while you’re at it! usually there’s goats, who’s not a sucker for goats?
+ trying to find a good balance w rooster at the farm. it’s hard! i want her to be out as much as possible, but she just wants to wander (duh. she’s a dog.) and i’m worried about 1 - her getting into the compost because gross//she’s already done it and vommed about it. cool. 2 - going too far and not being able to find her way back. 3 - getting hit by a car cause there’s a road pretty close. wondering if i should get her a run so she can be outside more/run around a bit, but not have to be watched so closely? feels a little bit like just chaining her outside though and i feel weird about it...any dog-owning pals have advice?
+ thinking about doing a FARMVENTURES zine series with rural/farm-life lessons i’m learning, a recipe or two, other facts/things i’m learning about seeding/veggie families/etc, and maybe some other stuff? would anyone be interested in that kinda thing if it came to fruition? still in the planning stages/putting out feelers.
+ last! (if you’re still here - hi!) i’ve got some digital versions of two zines that i’m very proud of! A Guide to You was the first collage zine i made last august while i was in pdx and is $3. it’s a little zine-list i made to remind myself how to keep on keepin’ on and i think you might like it. I Can’t Stop Moving is much longer and is about time passing being tragic, farm life, and some other lessons i learned in 2015 and you can get it for $5. i’m still debating getting an etsy store, so for now just message me and we can do some paypal/venmo/email exchanging~
WOW these always get long really quick, but thanks for reading if you’re down here. i like writing these journal updates. not sure exactly who i’m keeping in the loop, but it’s a few of you i think!
