I subbed at one of my favorite schools (yes, they may all be my favorites 😂) on Friday, and the librarian left the best lesson plan ever featuring this book — QUIT CALLING ME A MONSTER by Jory John & Bob Shea. I read it to all the grades, 1st through 6th, and we had awesome discussions about bullying (and for the older kids, social media bullying) and choosing kindness. - 📚. This was such a good reminder to me that picture books can be appropriate at all ages and lesson plans can be stretched to meet the older grades’ interests. I seriously had an unbelievably good day with these kiddos and learned that The Golden Rule is still passed on! - 📚. What I didn’t know is that David Shannon based the stories on a book he made when he was in elementary school, and the book consisted of drawings of David doing things he wasn’t supposed to do with only the words “No David” printed on the page.
