I'm always so excited and grateful for diverse representation in books. Happy pub day to Dream, Annie, Dream by Waka Brown! Thanks to @harperkids for the gifted copy. QOTD: What is a book you recommend that debunks the "American Dream"? Books like these are so important because they offer kids a window into another person's world and unique experiences. They teach compassion and empathy. They also empower kids to make a difference. 🇯🇵 SYNOPSIS: 🇯🇵 In this empowering deconstruction of the so-called American Dream, a twelve-year-old Japanese American girl grapples with, and ultimately rises above, the racism and trials of middle school she experiences while chasing her dreams. As the daughter of immigrants who came to America for a better life, Annie Inoue was raised to dream big. And at the start of seventh grade, she’s channeling that irrepressible hope into becoming the lead in her school play. So when Annie lands an impressive role in the production of The King and I, she’s thrilled . . . until she starts to hear grumbles from her mostly white classmates that she only got the part because it’s an Asian play with Asian characters. Is this all people see when they see her? Is this the only kind of success they’ll let her have—one that they can tear down or use race to belittle? Disheartened but determined, Annie channels her hurt into a new dream: showing everyone what she’s made of. #DreamAnnieDream #WakaBrown #books #bookish #bookstagrammer #bookphotos #bookrecommendation #bibliophile #bookworm #reading #middlegrade #bookstagram #AAPI #ownvoices #literature #harperkids #readersofinstagram #Asianbooks #HarperInfluencer #AsianAuthors #booksforyouth #explorebooks #diversereads #childrenslit #TBR #booksbooksbooks #bookfeature #newrelease #hardcovers #libros (at Ridgewood, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZu3UD-vERK/?utm_medium=tumblr

A Girl Walks into the Forest by Madeleine Roux
Us pub date - 6/10/25
This started off so strong, was highly atmospheric, and captured my attention.
However, once Valla reached her destination the story lost its momentum for me - the new characters introduced were so one dimensional that I was unable to recapture my original interest in the story.
Thank you to Quill Tree Books and NetGalley for the DRC
I did a HIIT workout for the first time yesterday and oh my gosh, my butt hurts 🤣 too many squats. Anyways - I have a ton on my to-do list today! What’s on yours?! —————— 🪴☀️🍃—————— Big thanks to @HarperKids for gifting Chase and I this free copy of A Song Called Home by Sara Zarr (@sarazarrbooks) This middle grade book about what makes a family is available now! There are some trigger warnings for middle grade readers so please do your research! 📚 ABOUT → Lou and her family don’t have much, but for Lou it's enough. Mom. Her sister, Casey. Their apartment in the city. Her best friend, Beth. It would be better if Dad could stop drinking and be there for her and Casey, and if they didn't have to worry about money all the time. But Lou doesn’t need better—she only needs enough. What’s enough for Lou, however, is not enough for Mom. Steve, Mom's boyfriend, isn’t a bad guy, he's just…not what Lou is used to. And now, he and Mom are getting married, and that means moving. Packing up life as they’ve known it and storing it in Steve’s garage. Lou will be separated from everything in her small but predictable life, farther from Dad than ever. Their last night in the city, Lou receives a mysterious birthday gift: A guitar, left for her by their front door. There’s nothing saying who left it, but it must be from Dad. And as she leaves the only place she’s ever known, she starts to believe that if she can learn how to play it, maybe she can bring a piece of him, and of her old life, home. 🏷: #Bookstagram #PTMBooks #IDGAFBookstagram #HarperKids #ASongCalledHome #MiddeGradeBooks #BooksAndPlants #Shelfie (at Saint Joseph, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cci0B_TLzTu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The people remember that like the rising and setting sun, the winds turning from cool to warm. they can change a time, a today, a tomorrow, but never the past. The people remember that they have the power to change this nation. KUJICHAGULIA. Self-determination. QOTD: What diverse children's book taught you something? Thanks to @harperkids for the gifted copy. I am always grateful for opportunities to read diasporic books. Reading The People Remember by Haitian author Ibi Zoboi and illustrator Love is Wise was a beautiful and immersive experience. It is always special when a book depicts true black history and fosters in pride our ancestral beliefs and practices. I learned so much but I also got reminders of how far black people have come despite America's history continuing to repeat itself. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the writing is full of rich history. I wish they had books like these when I was growing up. Seeing accurate history and diverse representation in literature in childhood can be transformative and helps with self esteem building, promotes community building and emotional intelligence, as well as builds empathy. I hope this book makes its way to every classroom library. I highly recommend everyone pick up a copy and share it with all the children in your life. Summary will be in the comments. #ThePeopleRemember #IbiZoboi #LoveisWise #HarperKids #books #bookstagram #childrensbooks #bookphotos #bookworm #reading #bibliophile #BooksandMurals #bookish #ownvoices #diaspora #BlackAuthors #BlackLiterature #bookfeature #bookstagrammer #HarperInfluencer #bookreview #bookrecommendation #illustrated #booksbooksbooks #bookdragon (at Brooklyn Beer Garden-Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUvrlW0LqhF/?utm_medium=tumblr
