What are subtitle glasses? I'm not familiar with them...
Oh, they’re just my personal fantasy about how movie theaters can be and not real--except, upon Googling, they evidently are?? Sony came out with a product in 2012, They’re glasses you can wear like 3D glasses except they show subtitles, so they’re a personal closed-caption display system for those who want them. Predictably their use is not widespread, but the technology and product are out there!
Subtitle Glasses: A Review
Attending many stage plays and musicals in Japan has become that much easier with the addition of subtitle glasses. Currently, these glasses are only available at the AiiA Theater in Tokyo, and being able to have the opportunity to give these glasses a try was a treat!
That being said, there are some pros and cons that come with these glasses, and if you’re considering attending a performance at this theatre in the future, you should be well-prepared.

Sony UK has created glasses that allow the wearer to view subtitles on the inside of the glasses individual lens, creating great potential out of these glasses. The glasses can be used to display the text of the movie for those that are hard of hearing, or the glasses can even be used to translate movies to entirely new languages if the technology is developed correctly. Opportunities are limitless, and I can't wait to see more on these glasses as they are developed more and more.
