Our dearest ones are the ones who keep a wish inside a tiny globe around their throats. Our dearest ones are makers & healers & givers & lovers. Tara Hardy, dearest of the dearest. Karen Finneyfrock, healer of the healers. Anna O Anna, kindest of the kind. All of Gay City, who welcomed us & applauded us open-er & brought infinite love into the theater. We can’t believe we had to turn people away at the door. Thank you for showing up in all your fullheartedness, in all your wonder. We ode you big & bigger & biggest-est.
Here's the poem I cooked up for a lovely young geniusheart named Ashlynn who asked for one about "dainty flowers" but I misunderstood her & so this was born. Ashlynn, if you're reading this, your wet eyes & tender post-poem hug made me feel like a real poet. Thank you. I ode you.
Oh, Claw, Home, a City!
• Praise be the goofy village: five year old, eight year old, dad full of bearded grandfather jokes, mom with octagon glasses & an artful eye.
• Praise be Commonplace Books, where home be between two hardcovers. Boom be the packed room, singing along “Luckily you’re not perfect...” making us re-believe it, which we admittedly need.
• Too, Short Order Poems, which was one of our favorite (if not very favorite) stops on tour, where we concocted little word jams for the willing. Praise be the teens with their willing-willing faces, eager hands, hunger for the word & share & feel. We ode you most.
• Praise be the ease of new friends, the basketball game with a mini-hoop & mini-person, the vegan brunch with old friends, Zuniga & the Sweet Kids - our favorite band.
• Boom to the typewriter, ancient mammoth, trodding along with muddy click-clack steps. We love your sound & jump & jam. The one Shira click-clacked on that came from a no-longer standing country. How everything changes - the weather, the politics, the people - but a thing is a thing that can be held in your hands.
• & Praise be creating - side by side - always - us. Praise be us, babe. You sleeping while I type this. I ode your snore, the flock of it lifting in this room. I ode our journey, the Southern leg done, the West unfolding tomorrow.

Yes, we remember the most beautiful house show courtesy of Luke, Michelle & Sage. Why yes, we do recall when our very own Baddy Naffy HELD A SNAKE. And lovingly too. Yes, it was sweet to watch Lil Naf test a pop filter at NPR & Shi Shi strum a dum dum for da radio. And bless Geffrey, Lissette & Carlos, new fam, sturdiest kin.
