Daniel Penny is found not guilty in Jordan Neely strangling
On May 1st, 2023, Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man, was acting erratically on a Manhattan subway. Although he didn’t physically harm anyone, his behavior caused concern among passengers. Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old Marine veteran, intervened and placed Neely in a chokehold. Neely later lost consciousness and died. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. Penny was initially questioned but was later charged with second-degree manslaughter.
