Climb that Corporate Ladder on your own terms.
So, I have worked at the corporate sector for a few years now and I can tell you for a fact that you and your work gets noticed. And it will always help you climb the corporate ladder.
Now, I am not saying to be noticed and climb the corporate ladder you must put others down, take unnecessary credit or try to overachieve on other people’s expenses. These are perceptions portrayed by the media, they never help you succeed, maybe in the short term, but in the long term- not at all.
The truth is, nobody wants to work with a person like that, especially, today in the corporate culture where teams are given more value than individuals, where a work life balance is supported more than spending days at work, and where focus is on consumer health and happiness rather than a constant focus on the bottom line. Given that the goals and outlook of how corporates do business is changing; so, is its company culture. After all, its made by the people for the people.
So, how will you climb the corporate ladder? Given that corporations have become so team focused if you build your team rapport, contribute to the team and behave like a team member- you automatically stand out. Believe it or not you colleagues will rave about you and ask that they work with you over and over again. Work life balance, while you achieve your goals is genuinely supported at corporations now a days, so if you can actually keep a work life balance it speaks so highly of you- it definitely shows off your skillsets- time management, prioritization, handling responsibilities, decision making, etc. You stand out like a sore thumb. Lastly, these days companies are user focused they want to build products for the consumer- that helps solve their needs and stands out for them. If you get on the same band wagon and start focusing on consumer needs and wants, your ideas will be taken and implemented, and you will have made an impression.
These things really boil down to a combination of your hard work, knowledge and soft skills. Climbing the corporate ladder is not about manipulation and playing politics at work; its about being genuine, open and being focused. Stand out with these qualities and you will climb that ladder in no time.
