The symbolism of tartah leaving behind his wizard's hat and all its trappings means so much to me. he goes to use a spell he and coco made and they show you can do things together rather than apart.
I also like that in the next scene, when the doctor catches them, she sees the hat in his hands, clutched low to his stomach and addresses him as apprentice witch. All the subtle storytelling really helps with showing the barriers of controlling one's education and barring people from sharing skills. It damages relationships, prevents people from achieving more, but even still Tartah was recognized as a witch and that is still a gift on its own! Nothing it wholly good or bad and I adore that.
