Sudocats
Release Date: March 14th 2022
Developer: Devcats
Publisher: Devcats
Description:
"Cats are wonderful creatures but you better not put them together without proper introduction. So, plan ahead to display them in the right order so they get along! When you adopt a cat and there is(are) other(s) cat(s) already living in the house, you need to make a gradual introduction first. Sudocats can be handy in that matter!"
Sticking with the feline theme, Sudocats combines the tried and tested puzzle formula of sudoku with adorable animals to create a truly relaxing experience. Instead of boring numbers, players arrange unique looking cats into grids, following the same rules of avoiding overlapping lines or boxes as in the more traditional version of this Japanese puzzle.
Sudocats offers several sizes of grid, ranging from 4x4 to the classic 9x9. Unfortunately, there are only 27 levels in the base game, plus 12 unlockable extra puzzles. Still, for a price point less than that of a morning coffee, it’s a pretty solid investment for a gamer looking to relax and enjoy a chill puzzle or two in the evening, and should be good for a few hours of entertainment depending on your skills.
One more delightful point in developer Devcats’ favour is that the game also contains advice for cat owners looking to introduce a new member of the family to another kitten. It really shows that the team behind the game care about cats as companions, and could make this game an adorable gift to give to a friend or family member in the process of bringing another kitty into the fold.
Pros:
• Cheap price point
• Rules are easy to learn and may already be familiar to sudoku fans
• Gives great advice for cat owners in a handy tips menu
Cons:
• Limited amount of levels
• No innovations compared to a classic sudoku game aside from the art style
My husband took this picture of our cat Buddy exploring our gaming hutch. If you're looking for a cat game to play, I recommend Sudocats, Building Full of Cats, Zodiacats and Castle Full of Cats!
Quick notes on games I've actually finished on Steam since June is a short one:
Sudocats: Sudoku, but with cats. Cute, short, not particularly hard but satisfying
A Building Full of Cats: Hidden object, but with cats. Cute, short, etc.
Hook 2: Another random minimalist puzzle game. Not knowing anything about it going into it was excellent because I had no idea what the main gimmick was that they changed from the first game, which was a great surprise
Jewel Match Solitaire Winterscapes: It's more Jewel Match Solitaire, except this time there's snow and really annoying Christmas Muzak
