A painting of mine from over a year ago. I attempted to reconstruct the man’s face based on the Osterby man, a bog body, and I based his clothes and pose off a Roman statuette from around the same period, of a Germanic man with the same Suebian knot hairstyle. Some is my artistic interpretation, other is based off real historical findings.

Historical Warrior Hair

Yay, hairstyles that have historical precedent and that I can actually do!  I love taking archaeological things like this and just casually wearing them to work, and things of the sort. <3  I’ve been feeling pretty uninspired with my hair lately (ponytail, braid, boring bun are the only three things I’ve been doing of late).  There’s a video on women’s hairstyles, too, so I may need to try those as well.  It’s just nice to find options for absurdly long hair.

Osterby Man or the Osterby Head is a bog body of which only the skull and hair survive. It was discovered in 1948 by peat cutters to the southeast of Osterby, Germany. The hair is tied in a Suebian knot. The head is at the State Archaeological Museum at Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein.
