A Poetic Headcanon
Steven Universe: What would Connie say or even think of me now, if she saw my Pink outbursts...?
*Pearl puts her hand on Steven’s shoulder*
Pearl: You know something? An old friend once told me something very important. Something that I needed to hear when I was feeling awful.
Steven Universe: What did this friend say?
Pearl: This person told me...
*hugs Steven*
Pearl: Well, I think you’re pretty great.
Steven Universe: *slowly breaks into tears*
I’d even have younger Steven’s line echo over Pearl’s for good freaking measure, if this were to ever happen in Steven Universe Future.
This isn't huge or anything but I have a headcanon that, if some big stuff doesn't change, Steven will leave the gems.
The core of his stress is gem life and he's suffering from PTSD, I wouldn't be surprised if he's suffering from a host of other things as well.
Steven went from being treated like a baby, to being turned to as a leader In 3-4 years. When SU started Steven wasn't even allowed to go on missions or able to use his gem yet. As far as we saw only one birthday passed in that time for Steven. Heck in the episode too many birthdays it shows that every birthday his father had given him the kind of birthday you would give a small child.
The gems sheltered him, and he hasn't even ever been to school. For a long long time, Steven socializing with beach city folks and just hanging out and playing with the gems was his whole life. Things changed so suddenly with Lapis, then peridot, then Jasper, and then just ever interaction with homeworld gave Steven more and more stress. To the point that every single episode he seems flat out miserable and as much of. Good sport he is and how badly he wants to be good and do good for others, he's just continually throwing himself away to do it.
When he and Jasper fought even though he clearly wasn't all that happen about it, when he GREW for the first time in so long, he was so happy and excited. For the first time in so long he felt good about something for himself.
Steven universe has always had such a big picture of self love and Steven has always been at the center of that. But shit constant misery and triggers due to being around the gems are not helping him.
When he met pink Steven they laughed and were so happy just to be him. That seems to have waned in such a painful way. Greg seems to largely be the only one caring for Steven's emotional health and we have hardly seen him.
Several times pearl and Garnet and even amethyst have brushed Steven abd his thoughts and feelings aside. When he told them how he felt about bluebird they brushed him off and invalidated the heck out of him. When he was freaked out by the rose quartz' they abandoned him to deal with it on his own.
This has gotten out of hand but long story short I believe Steven will leave, and get away from ALL gems, he needs to return to a place of normalcy and self love he hasn't seen in forever and the gems will continue to be stressors for him.
I believe it'll be he and Connie or he and his dad. Possibly even he and the crystal gems, but he will leave and find all that he needs someplace else.
I bet she loves small things
Steven is not her, but he is clearly a (pink) diamond .
