Definition of Sufi
The name Sufi is an expression derived from the Arabic word Saf, “pure.” The reason that the Sufis are called by this name is that their inner world is purified and enlightened with the light of wisdom, unity, and oneness [Tawheed]. Every deed you perform in this world will have its impact upon you physically and spiritually. Your face is the index of your deeds and your eyes are the windows of your soul. You will notice that most people who have similar professions also share similarities in their physical appearances. Their faces resemble one another throughout the world because of The Almighty’s immutable laws of the universe. For instance, lawyers, policemen, politicians, prostitutes, etc. resemble one another irrespective of where they are in the world. How is this possible? A person can hide their deeds, but they cannot alter or change the reaction that appears on their faces as a direct result of their deeds.
Science of Man
The Almighty created the physical body with His own hands. In the process of the creation of the first man, He mixed water and clay and allowed it to exist for some time. Then He kneaded it and made an outline. Thereafter, He added form and continued to mold and configure him in various ways. Remarkable, in order that mankind may not forget that He is the Creator, The Almighty repeats this same process in the womb of his mother. Man is composed of two aspects, body and soul. He has been instructed to keep both pure and clean. The physical body has to be kept clean by ablutions, baths, proper dress and hygiene; keeping the body clean from all filth and pollution. Simultaneously, the non-physical body or the soul must also be kept clean and purified from inner pollutions.
