So Erik and I are on a sugar fast for two weeks, before we fly back home to see our families in California. By being a little stricter now, we’ll feel good about splurging while on vacation. He is also doing a bread fast, since bread is his weakness, but the sugar is in solidarity with me. We’re also trying (more permanently) to up our protein-veggies-carbs ratio to about 40-40-20 each meal instead of a more typical 20-40-40, and when we eat carbs, to make them whole grain. (We tried bulgur wheat and amaranth last week!)
Monday and Tuesday, my diet consisted of original Cheerios with whole milk, a banana, unsweetened coffee, sour cream baked chicken with roasted sweet potato and beets, a pear, and lentil salad with beet greens and tuna. Today, lunch is a cheese and veggie-balogna sandwich on rye, roasted zucchini and eggplant, and all the same fruits and breakfast stuff. I’m not sure about dinner yet, but it’ll involve baby tomatoes or cauliflower, and probably some fish.
Even though we didn’t buy any more vegetables than usual on our grocery trip, something is different, and I’m not sure what. Maybe the increased protein is filling us up, so we eat fewer veggies and thus have enough for leftovers. Hard to say.
Whatever the case, I was surprised to see the scale budge half a pound after holding for more than a week (and before that, it held for almost a month). I know scales are not the best reflection of body changes, especially post pregnancy, but knowing I weigh less AND can run almost 2 miles in one go, three times a week AND have clothes that are fitting AND am starting to recognize my body as my own all feels good.
