How frequent is frequent, I wonder? Like several times daily? A couple of times a week? Do you still get butterflies?
As we become more familiar with each other, it's true that giddiness isn't as common, but I do still feel "in love" regularly. The reason has changed, though. The initial feelings used to be a result of the unpredictability and mystery of loving someone new. Now I feel it as I rediscover who he is. I used to get the butterflies because it was all about me, but I get the butterflies now when I make it about him--when I choose to realize what an honor it is to love him. Love requires me to re-learn him. The butterflies come when you understand that no matter how well you think you know someone, they still have uncharted territory for you to discover. While it's common to think, "Oh, we know each other so well because we've been together so long," in actuality, I think that the longer you know each other, the more likely it is that you both have changed, and this presents an opportunity to rediscover the world hidden within each other. There's so much to love when we don't assume that we've figured each other out.
