The thing is, they like the Havocs, and Jean in particular. They’ve known him since they were kids.
So Ed waits until Jean is alone, since he seems determined to keep their shared history from the rest of the team, and says, “You should call your mother more.”
Jean freezes, then blinks. “What?”
“She was visiting Granny last time I called, and took the phone to ask me if you’re eating enough or if you have a girlfriend.” He points a finger at him, and Jean goes cross eyes trying to look at it. “Call your mom.”
There’s a moment when it’s clear he wants to refuse or say something snarky, but then he seems to remember what exactly happened to Ed’s mother, and his shoulders hunch. “Yeah, okay. I’ll call.”
Ed didn’t mean to make him feel miserable, so he pats him on the head, the same way Jean used to do to him and Al as kids, then flees before it can get any weirder.
