"Habbo (formerly known as Habbo Hotel) is an internet social networking site operated by the Sulake Corporation. Aimed at young people and teenagers, Habbo features chat rooms designed to resemble hotel rooms, rendered in isometric projection. Registration and entry to Habbo are completely free, but access to additional services requires the purchase of "Habbo Credits," the in-house currency, which can be obtained by paying with real money via credit card or by sending an SMS message. Habbo Credits are used to acquire extra items within the hotel, such as Habbo Club membership and the ability to purchase furniture, called "furni," among other things. The service was launched in August 2000. It has expanded to 31 countries and is currently available in 21 languages The network's growth is so significant that over 75,000 new users join daily, 9,500,000 unique visitors are registered monthly, and more than 100 million accounts have been created. Furthermore, 80% of visitors are between 13 and 18 years old. In 2008, Habbo boasted over 110 million accounts worldwide, with the Spanish and Latin American hotel contributing more than 15 million accounts to that total. The highest number of concurrent users across all hotels was recorded in the Spanish and Latin American hotel, where approximately 67,000 users have played simultaneously in a single hotel." ~Jorge Alberto Durán Chávez, Colegio Ciencia y Tecnología ("Diferentes Partes de La Maquina", via Scribd) [BMT🤖]
