Wank Wednesday - Summer Review

Should everyone have the right to make fic recs? For today’s Wank Wednesday, we’re delving into the debate around this question that took place in the Usenet group alt.tv.x-files.creative.

The controversy started with a post by Lore called “REVIEW: Fan Fic, Summer '97” in which she gave a roundup of her top fic recommendations that included some critique in her reviews. In response, Sheare Bliss wrote a long message criticizing Lore’s use of the words “the best” to talk about the fics she recced and questioning her legitimacy and the quality of the works she cited. This sparked a long debate around these questions.

I’m back!

After an entire semester’s break I am back on Tumblr. Hopefully this time I can keep it more consistent and regularly post work as I go instead of these batch uploads I have been doing. 

I’ll get into how the semester went a bit later instead I want to talk about how it was going into it. I ended up spending the summer just working and doing a little bit of art stuff here and there. But then I struggled with my family in an unusual way. I began to have very high expectations of them and get frustrated with them in ways I hadn’t before. I realized after some time that this was stemming from my own insecurities and frustrations after the last semester. 

I was still reeling from the spring semester and I carried the pain of that with me for a while. By the end of summer though I realized what I was doing and started to work to get over it. I began working out a bit, eating better, sleeping more consistently and I made a promise to myself to keep that up throughout the next semester so that whatever problems I faced I’d at least be healthy and rested. This ended up working very well.

As I have mentioned before struggling with anxiety, depression, and insecurities has been a big problem in my life. Summer was the first time this started to really manifest itself in how I treated other people and I didn’t like that at all. Struggling with things in spite of not having school pressure was telling too that the issue was beyond just external pressure. By the end of summer though I had began to turn things around. 

I wish I could say I know what switch flipped but I honestly don’t know. After struggling so much for so long the solution ended up just happening as I realized I wasn’t willing to live that way any more. There was no one moment, there was no one resolution, instead I think the bleakness of living like that just finally sank in and my mind found the strength to fight it. 

I don’t mean to get too into this aspect of things but it’s an important transition in my life and in my journey that I think deserves to be mentioned in some way.

Summer Review

May 31, 2014 Last day of our summer review at Paradise high. Hinding hindi ko malilimutan ang review na ito, first dahil ang laki ng baon ko hahahaha. Second, nasisiyahan kasi akong magcommute kasama ang mga classmates ko parang every weekend adventure. Third, ang daming gwapong proctor and students from different schools. Fourth, I get to know more people and make friends with them yung iba nakapalitan ko pa ng IG and twitter usernames kaso sabi ko wag na nila hanapin yung twitter ko dahil mauurat lang sila dahil panay Justin Bieber yun. Fifth, ang dami kong natutunan syempre dahil review nga yun for upcat, pupcet, and ect. Dumugo na ata yung utak ko especially sa stats, trigo, and physics. Language proficiency nalang talaga pag-asa ko pag nag take ako ng upcat and pupcet eh Hahaha third option ko naman ang PNU pero syempre hopefully makapasa ako ng upcat dahil sayang naman diba ? Pero mama said na baka wag na mag take kasi ang dami pang kailangan pag) nakapasa. Hayst. Ewan ko. And lastly, naging ka-close ko yung tatlong taong hindi ko naman madalas kausap. Si Kimers kasi close ko na talaga. We always talk about random things and she's like my secret best friend ? Gets ba ? Hindi ko kasi lagi siya kasama pero open ako sa kanya unlike sa mga taong lagi kong kasama at kausap ewan. Ilang parin ako sa kanila. Si Katreng naman pag nagkakasalubong kami or pag napapansin niya ko pinipisil niya yung balikat ko while Zhaira we just talk when needed and when it comes to Ron he just talk to me if he needs something and when I need to ask him about school matters because he's a pres. of student government but now everything changed, feeling ko nakikilala ko sila lalo nakakhinayang nga lang kasi nalipat ng section si Kim and Zhai while the three of us remain at cream / star section. Pero atleast nalaman ko na pwede din akong maging friendly at hindi laging socially awkward. Na hindi lang ako pwedeng maging friendly online pero pwede din sa real world. Kung meron man akong lubos na natutunan sa Summer Review na ito bukod sa mga nakakamatay na mga nile-lesson namin ito yung .... "Sa buhay kailangan natin madalas gamitin ang TAE ... Trial And Error. Since summer is coming to an end

Give it 2 more weeks and then I'm back in school, I just want to reflect how awesome this summer has been.

2 bonfires; - 1 with co workers, the other with Mandy and Cindi (june)

a trip out to florida - Disney world for 3 days, spent the week with my mom, saw old friends of mine, and church friends(may)

a trip to california - went to the Santa Monica Pier, New Port Beach, Six Flags, and to the L.A. Temple. (july)

a trip to St. George - Went to Zion National Park and went on 2 hikes. (april)

Went to Ogden for my cousin's baby baby blessing (august)

A harry potter night (which I am still waiting to watch the last two movies) (july)

Celebrated 4th of July with family and went to the Stadium of Fire with Mandy and Cindi (july)

And I do believe that is all the highlights of this summer. Though, there were some low lights, where I just felt unwanted at church and other stuff, but I won't focus on that. Also, can you believe that it's already the 11th of August. Give it 4 more days and we will be half way through the month. WHERE IS THE TIME GOING!?
