Triple H vs. The Great Khali - WWE Championship Match (SummerSlam - 8/17/08)

I watched Summerslam 2008, and particularly CM Punk vs. JBL. I wasn't enjoying it much, and I'm not fond of JBL, but it did take a turn and the finish was interesting (from a non-kayfabe point of view). So JBL falls on Punk and cracks his head open by accident:
ouch. Then Punk, who realizes quickly that he's bleeding (I can only imagine this must have reminded him of the time he fractured his skull in a ring), goes with his wrestler's instinct to smear it on his face (ngl that's hot). And he shows it off again at the end, because when you've got color, you might as well show it, right.
But I particularly liked the finish, because during the one or two minutes since the injury, I don't think JBL realized that it was a big deal. But after he pins Punk and Punk lifts himself from the mat, you can see him look at the amount of blood, whisper something in Punk's ear ("let's go home", probably) and leave himself wide open for Punk to do the GTS (it kinda looks like he's gonna spin him for a waltz).
I like it because it's interesting to see communication in the ring and how wrestlers work around mishaps. I thought it was professional and responsible to end it there, as soon as he realized the seriousness of the injury. I never want a wrestling match to continue when people are aware they or their opponent are wounded. Fuck the story, let that guy get his head looked at. Of course there are matches that are made great by wrestlers powering through their injury because it's a pay per view and the stakes are high or whatever reason, but they need to be able to communicate that they want to do that. Here, Punk seemed to agree that it was best to end it there.

John Cena vs. Batista - Summerslam 2008
3.75/5 (*** 3/4) - This match went rather forgotten over time, but I remember this being a HUGE deal back in 2008. Cena was the face of RAW for years, and Batista was the face of Smackdown, then they finally got a chance to face off on one on at Summerslam. It wouldn't be the best match these two had, but it was a great first time and was a true dream match and a match that holds up today. Instead of just a pure power move fest, there was some submission work in this match with Batista working Cenas leg and using the Figure Four Leg Lock, and later John Cena locking in the STF. Not what you'd expect from these two, but it worked. Batista would beat Cena clean after two Batista Bombs. Cena would be injured in this match, suffering a herniated disc in his neck and wouldn't be back until Survivor Series later that year.
It's free to watch in full on WWE's Youtube Channel (which is the source I used so that explains the ad for Summerslam in a few of the gifs), so give it a watch yourself if you have 15 minutes.

Punk vs. Babygirl John for the WHC title
At some point they just smash their heads, Punk’s top against John’s back of the head
I see John starting to move his fingers as if he was trying to feel something
Punk’s bleeding he didn’t even notice
What the fuck that was incredibly scary
I heard that on Something to wrestle with that it had happened with Punk, and that they’d both lost sensitivity and didn’t know where they were with the ref checking on them
I hadn’t realised it was that match
Holy shit
My head hurts just thinking about it
Poor babies
