And it’s only been a little over a week! I’m sitting in a hotel room at 2am and should really get to sleep, but I just had to post this first.

“Well, don’t you two look lovely together.”
Kara startled at Lena’s voice, the slight jerk of her body causing Vermeer to spook. He sidestepped unexpectedly, a jarring motion at a canter. There was a suspended moment in time where she worried she might fall; Kara’s balance shifted dangerously to one side and the gravity of the sandy arena seemed to pull at her. Luckily, Vermeer recovered his footing quickly, and Kara was able to reseat herself, organizing the reins and straightening her posture, before soothing the horse with a palm on his neck.
Kara brought Vermeer to a halt and then turned his head and her own body in the direction of the voice behind her. Lena, to her credit, looked absolutely mortified. Kara found herself smiling and waving away the other woman’s apology before she even started to issue it.
“Oh my god. I am so sorry.”
“It’s fine, Lena. It’s fine.”
Kara laughed, as she turned Vermeer fully and trotted over to Lena, who was standing at the far end of the arena, her hand over her heart.
“Horses spook. It’s part of the package.”
Lena was shaking her head, flustered. “Well, I know better than to approach a horse from behind like that. I could have been a panther for all he knew.”
Kara drew Vermeer to a stop at the fenceline, and Lena reached out a hand to stroke the horse’s nose in apology. Kara looked down at the heiress, dressed in what she supposed was what Lena considered casual: a tight-fitting pair of maroon pants, low-heeled boots, and a printed blouse. Lena’s hair was up in an elaborate, loose bun, her makeup delicate. She looked breathtakingly beautiful–but Kara quickly shook that thought from her mind before it had a chance to take hold.
She cleared her throat and Lena’s eyes, which had been lingering somewhere around Kara’s legs wrapped snugly around the saddle, snapped up to meet Kara’s gaze. Kara smirked, “You don’t look like a panther to me. I think we’re safe.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time someone mistook me for predatory,” Lena quipped, before seeming to realize what she’d said. She took a step back from the fence, her tone shifting to something more practiced and careful.. “Don’t feel like you have to stop on my account.” She gestured expansively at the arena with one arm. “I just wanted to see how you were settling in, but I can come back later when you’re done, if that’s easier?” Lena started to back away from the arena to leave Kara to her own devices, which was exactly the opposite of what Kara wanted.

Quackbur, set in the same AU as the last one-shot. Thank you anon! this came up to 700 words total dfhfg
Wilbur had promised Phil and Techno he would be home before dark. After all, Phil couldn’t stay up all night watching Fundy, and Wilbur had a class tomorrow, and then there was also Tubbo’s recital he had to go to at the end of the day… but Quackity was persuasive. One shot turned into two into four, and before he knew it, Wilbur and Quackity had wandered off from their friend group, abandoning their cars in the parking lot of the bar.
The two were shit-faced, meandering around singing random songs that came to mind, eventually just shouting words cacophonously into the air hoping it would find a tune. They managed to leave the beach and the marina beside it entirely, waving drunkenly at the men working at the docks in the wee hours of the night.
The city was not glitzy, it wasn’t glamorous, it was old as balls. Untouched plots of land were scarce, especially with the city’s attempts to modernize, so the moment Wilbur saw a field, he pointed and demanded the two go there immediately. Quackity, in his inebriated stupor, couldn’t agree more.
The two walked over to the field, which had actually been property, and jumped the fence. They giggled and shushed one another as they made their way into the center. When they got to it, Quackity flopped down on his back, making a grass angel. Wilbur sat beside him, looking at the other fondly. The giggling had stopped now, the energy starting to dissipate. Quackity’s arms and legs had stilled and he was now starfishing as he looked up at the night sky. The stars were out, and Wilbur couldn’t help but stare at Quackity’s eyes. The stars reflected almost perfectly from what Wilbur could see, and he found himself lost in them for a moment.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer.” Wilbur chuckled at that and turned to look at the sky himself. He drew his legs to his chest, a small smile on his lips. “Unfortunately, I didn’t bring a camera.” Quackity scoffed, “You brought your phone, didn’t you?” Wilbur looked back at Quackity, lifting an eyebrow. “You really want me to take your picture?” Quackity sat up then and smirked. “If you keep looking at me like that, I’ll let you take more than-”
“Okay.” Wilbur interrupted, patting Quackity’s shin.
He leaned forward to grab his phone out of his back pocket. Wilbur pulled it out and opened it up, looking for the camera. Meanwhile, Quackity looked at the grass around them, delicately running his fingers through the blades. He moved his hand back towards himself and noticed a bug on it, but instead of throwing it, he examined it. It twitched a little, then it’s wings opened up and it lit up, emitting a soft glow. He moved and set the firefly on a blade of grass, watching as it glowed. And then he sneezed.
Wilbur managed to open the camera on his phone and turned towards Quackity at the perfect moment. Behind Quackity, hundreds of fireflies had flown up. Quackity basked in the glow, laughing as the bugs flew up. Wilbur paused for a moment, staring at the other before reacting. He pulled the phone up and took the picture.
He lowered the phone and looked, smiling at the scene before him. Quackity was still giggling a little at the fireflies, which had all begun moving on from the area. He stared at the stars again, a small smile on his lips and a fond look in his eye. Wilbur then looked down at the phone, checking to see if the photo was good. He smiled at it, giggling maniacally. He turned and showed Quackity the photo, giving him the phone when he reached for it.
The photo was of Quackity, his head leaned back and eyes closed, laughing. Behind him were hundreds of fireflies, almost like a curtain of twinkling lights. Quackity was silent, staring down at the phone. Wilbur paused, smile dropping as he watched him. “Is it okay?” Quackity quickly looked up, like he was startled. He took a second before smiling again and looking back down at the phone.
“...It’s perfect. Thank you, Wilbur.”
