Most of what people believe about exercise in general and building muscle in particular is completely backwards. - Most of what you see people doing in the gym is time-wasting nonsense. This is what happens when you follow tradition and commercial interests instead of evidence. In the long run a lot of methods can be equally effective if you . . 1. train hard, 2. progressively, 3. and consistently, 4. without exceeding the volume and frequency your body can recover from and adapt to, - Not all methods are equally safe, efficient, and practical, though. This is why I cringe at so much of the advice given here and in most of the fitness media. . . Most of it will waste a LOT of your time. Some if it will even HURT you. NONE of it will give you better results than simpler more time efficient methods that meet the above criteria.
