A little reflection about the Stars and the Moon arcanum
So, so, so! I was trying to imagine how some encounter between Ethari (or Runaan, maybe) and Aaravos would go when something hit me.
You see, the Sun and the Moon arcanum are at the same time opposed to each other, and have things in common. Where the moon is about shadows, manipulation, secrets and death, the Sun is all about light, truth, revealing and life. And yet, both are dual, both include their opposit in themselves. The sun is also about death and destruction, the moon is also about life and light, about love. Both are in perfect equilibrium, they’re perfectly balancing each other. It’s like a healthy relationship.
But now let’s take the moon and put it face to face with another arcanum: the stars. I’m not talking about some kind of battle here, of course, but about the essence, the philosophy behind the arcanum.
As I said, the moon is dual: Moonshadow are constantly bathing in illusions, in secrets and shadows. They’re always in between dreams and realities but never entirely in one of them, always in between lies and truth.
Startouch elves, on the other side, see the bigger picture, see things as a whole, big... truth. We know from the creators that Aaravos never lies. And if I guess correctly from what we have below (from Callum’s spellsbook) it’s not only Aaravos who never lies, but Startouch as a whole community.
And I wonder... how would it go, if a startouch was to confront a Moonshadow? I said the latters are always in between illusions and reality, in between lies and truth. But if there is no such thing as lies for Startouch elves...
I mean, if a Startouch can litterally alter realtiy (again, look above), it means they can “touch” it, can understand, see what “reality” is. And yet, according to Lujanne “those from the moon arcanum know that you can never touch or see that so called reality”. (or something, don’t remember the exact quote).
All of this to turn back to what I was saying in the begining: wouldn’t it be wonderfully interesting to see Aaravos facing Ethari? (or Lujanne, but my bet on Ethari who seems wiser). Probably not for a fight, but for some kind of... philosophical discussion? Who would win, then? We’re not in a balanced equilibrium like moon and sun, where forces are (supposedly) equivalent to each other...
But hey, if you want to get a real headache:
since reaching an arcanum goes by “understanding” it. Like... deeply understanding it. How do you think Aaravos managed to assimilate such opposite worldview? (of course, if my analysis is at least a little right...)
... I hope it makes sense (at least in my head it does)... ^^’
edit: Okay, I was about to go to bed and the answer hit me (again) about Aaravos. about how he managed to concile the moon and the stars in his freaking smart brain.
Stars = truth. Moon = lies and manipulation. okay, noted.
Now let’s observe Aaravos. He’s quite manipulative, this one, as we know. I first imagined all startouch were maybe like that, but what if this is what helped him understanding the moon arcanum, to some extent? What if he has his own interpretation of what “truth” is. Because, technically speaking, it’s not a lie if you say just the few necessary things for people to come to their own (very induced) deductions... no? One will say half truth aren’t lies, after all...
