Digimon Beatbreak Episode 23 Review - Power Is Everything

This is the penultimate episode of the Tactics arc and it hits hard. There’s a lot of lore regarding Kano Island and Klay as well as emotional gut punches. When Megumi Han said that Glowing Dawn meets a terrible fate in this episode, this was what she meant and she was right. I can’t believe I have to wait a week to see this resolved. I’m not prepared…

Klay’s true colors show when he just decides to Cold Heart Naito to power up Proganomon. Eventually, he captures Raito, Hotaruko and Granit, who were in the abandoned colosseum as Raito didn’t leave that place, and uses their e-pulse, alongside the other victims in the coffins, to power up his partner. He and his partner are probably the most formidable foes Glowing Dawn has faced up until now. Pyramidmon, Proganomon’s evolution, is the first Mega and I can see why they were saving it until the end of the second half. These Five Stars don’t play around. If Klay is already this hard with a forced evolution, imagine how challenging the other four will be. On top of that, Pyramidmon isn’t even in his full power as he’s unstable. Imagine how terrifyingly powerful he’d be if he had evolved normally. Also, notice how Klay entered Pyramidmon as it evolved—this means that Mega forms will follow the Tamers route and be like Biomerge. In all honesty, the man is probably one of the most evil human characters in the franchise, especially with what he did at the end. He needs to go down ASAP.

Klay’s backstory is revealed. He’s from a fictional country called the Kingdom of Albida. I don’t remember if he was just a citizen there or if he was part of the royal family there—I don’t think they specified. However, since Albida has rare earth minerals, international governments established a puppet government, causing power imbalance and eventually the downfall of the kingdom. It’s unknown how Albida was wiped out and what happened to the rest of its citizens but Klay is definitely one of its few survivors as it was mentioned he was a refugee. Eventually, twenty-one years ago, he was taken to Japan to be a part of Chairman Wong’s research regarding e-pulse. This was when Digimon appeared with his partner being Sunarizamon who later becomes Proganomon. A pillar of light showed up on the island with a younger Chairman Wong and a man named Professor Tenma on witnessing it from a helicopter. This was how the island got obliterated. It seems that Klay was able to get out unscathed since he was on the island at the time.

By the way, people are speculating that Professor Tenma is Tomoro’s father, but that’s incorrect. Tomoro’s father already showed up in Episodes 2 and 11. Remember that Asuka is 23 years old (he was 22 in the beginning but turned 23 towards the end of Episode 12 and onwards) and the incident happened 21 years ago, meaning that Asuka was only two years old and the Tenma parents were married. Given his age, Professor Tenma could either be Tomoro’s grandfather or a granduncle. This leads to a myriad of theories. I believe that Tomoro’s parents were arrested due to either their connection with Professor Tenma, or they knew the truth about tragedy that was mostly told to them by the professor, which led to their arrest. Either way, the Tenma parents’ arrest is definitely plot-related. This also means that Genjo holding onto Asuka's Sapotama definitely means that he knows of their connection or has knowledge of this mysterious Tenma family member. Klay did say that the World Union hid the truth of what really happened at Kano Island. Klay is 45 years old, so if the incident happened 21 years ago, he was 24 at the time, meaning that he is definitely one of the few characters who has good memory of the whole ordeal as he survived it.

It was really nice to see why Kyo was once the former Gold Star and why he fights for his dream. The way he finally gets a proper evolution sequence with the opening song playing was so cool. I always feel like the evolution sequences are a bit inconsistent, especially with the song choices, but this makes up for it! This was the strongest I’ve seen from Murasamemon yet! People had been speculating that he’d evolve to Mega in this episode, but this episode shows that Mega forms aren’t as easy to accomplish as they require a lot of e-pulse. Since the TCG revealed a Digimon called Habakirimon with feline features similar to Murasamemon, it’s safe to say that it will happen soon, but not in this arc. Also, this means that Murasamemon is the first Digimon in this anime to defeat a Mega.

Also, why are people quick to put death flags on Kyo? He’s not permanently dead! He’s only Cold Hearted, which means he’ll be revived if Tomoro and the others defeat Proganomon. And why is the Kyo dying theory so rampant? How can he die when we still don’t know how he met Asuka and he and Kaito haven’t settled the score with each other. HE’S NOT GOING TO DIE PERMANENTLY! Remember that he’s a Digimon main character. He’s not the MC, but a very significant character meaning that he won’t die. Look at past Digimon shows—no one except for some villains died.

Anyways, Professor Tasuku Tenma is voiced by Kenyu Horiuchi who has been in Tamers as Indaramon, Hunters as Metallifekuwagamon and in Ghost Game as CaptainHookmon. Outside of Digimon, he’s known for being the second voice actor of Professor Oak in Pokemon after Unsho Ishizuka passed away. He also voiced Kin’emon from One Piece and Artorius Collbrande from Tales of Berseria. Proganomon’s rookie form Sunarizamon is voiced by Yudai Mino who voiced some human characters in Ghost Game.

I’m just worried for Tomoro because he’s definitely going on a rampage next week. It does make me wonder how everything will be resolved. I am not liking what I am seeing in the preview. Let’s just hope that Tactics Team 7 will recover fast and help Tomoro out because he needs all the help he can get—it can also be good Raito redemption. Let me know your thoughts on this episode!

A list of Digimon lines that need to be added if Time Stranger gets its own Hacker's Memory

To release another game more quickly, Hacker's Memory reused Cyber Sleuth's original assets and expanded on it instead of making something completely new. If they did the same with Time Stranger, and they might to capitalize on the current Digimon hype, here's a list of new digimon that need to be on the expanded roster

Surprisingly, Hacker's Memory expanded more on the original roster than I realized. Vanilla CS was 249. HM bumped it up to 341. I'm gonna keep the list around 90

Obligatory Ghost Game as first members on the list. Probably the most consistent complaint about the current game roster. This is 16 or 18 depending on if they include all of Gammamon's champions

I'm liberator trash. Bear with me as I math this correctly

Pteromon, Shoemon, Elizamon, and Sunarizamon are 4 each. Ghostmon 2. Sangomon 3. 21

Impmon and Funbeemon 3 each. Tyrannomon and Frigimon 2 each. Espimon and Hanimon 4 each. 18

Blucomon and Bemmon are 4 each

Ludomon agenda continues. Including RagnaLordmon, that's 5

Loogamon and Pulsemon are 9 together. 4 each plus their jogress

We have Tankdramon and Darkdramon, but not Commandramon or Sealsdramon. We'll say 2 or 5 to maybe include the new 3 D-Brigade members

On a related note, Labramon and Anubismon would be cool. I actually love Labramon as Plutomon's rookie too. Gee, Labramon. Why do you get two death dog megas?

We'll end the list with the Chessmon. They're the only Data Squad members not in the game. 8
