~I can't believe I'm still doing this
I told myself a month ago that I'd be through with this~
You sat at a booth with the rest of your friends smiling and laughing. You had agreed to go out when your best friend told you that you couldn’t sit around at home anymore.
“It’s been a month,” she sighed at the beginning of the night. “You need to do something other than sit here and think about him,” she scolded you.
You only glared back, “aish, what do you know?” You grumbled.
“I know that you only sit in your room and go to work, have you done anything fun recently?” she countered.
“Sure I did!” you shouted. “I… uh,” you racked your brain for the last thing you did that had you laughing or even smiling and then his face bubbled up to the surface looking down at you as he tackled you with tickles.
Your face flushed as she looked at you expectantly. “See?”
You huffed and crossed your arms over your chest, “I don’t even know the people you’re going with!” you protested.
“Like you don’t know Kyle and Kaylee,” she rolled her eyes as she went through your drawers and threw clothes in your direction.
“Yah! Who gave you permission to go through my clothes?!” You grumbled, snatching up the shirt and jeans.
“You better be ready in 15 minutes,” she sang exiting your room.
~I'm looking at my phone
And wondering if you're home
I'm kinda tipsy, I ain't tryna sleep alone~
You scrolled through your phone and saw his name blinking up at you enticingly: Sung Gu.
“What are you doing?” your best friend giggled tumbling beside you to sit down, her drink sloshing around slightly.
“Nothing,” you smiled. “What are you drinking?”
“Here,” she said pushing the drink into your hands. “You drink it,” she said. “it’s too sour.”
You rolled your eyes and took a tentative sip. The tart taste hit your tongue, you didn’t usually like mixed drinks, but it put that haze up, and hell, you weren’t paying so why not? “It’s good,” you offered as your friend still watched your face.
She started giggling more and you rolled your eyes as she got another drink from the guy that was attached to her side.
~Somebody told me that some other girl was hugging
You, Baby you know I'm the one that should be loving you
You know we had a thing
Baby, it's such a shame
I still get crazy every time I hear your name
And I know it's complicated
But you know I'm impatient~
“Sung Gu was at the library today,” Kaylee giggled, watching you.
“Yeah, he was with some girl,” Kyle stepped in. You looked over at the twins and realized that they were just trying to get a reaction out of you.
You shook your head and got up to get yourself another drink at the bar. You met eyes with a guy who sat studying the people around him. He stood out to you because even though he had a drink sitting in front of him, he barely even touched it.
“Hey,” you smiled at him.
“Hi,” he answered with a practiced smile. “Are you okay?”
You nodded and ordered your next drink, “so you have a drink, and you’re not drinking it,” you said giving him a look.
The caramel haired man smirked and took a sip of his drink to appease you, “better?”
You nodded and clapped happily when your drink arrived, “I should go back to my friends…”
“I’m Alex,” he said extending his hand towards you.
You smiled and shook his hand and walked away without another word.
~3AM, yep I'm texting you once again
Even though I'm hanging with my friends
And I can't help it, I can't help myself, no
3AM, I might be looking for a late night friend and baby
I can't get you out my head
I can't help it, I can't help myself, no~
You fished your phone out of your pocket again and found his name faster than before, you sent him a text asking if he was awake and sat back beside your best friend while you waited for a reply.
Before you knew it, you and your friends were moving on to the next bar to keep drinking. Four hours earlier if someone told you that you would have been out drunk in the middle of the night, you would have laughed in their face. You weren’t that kind of person anymore, or so you thought.
The drinks made it easy to loosen up, you didn’t want to think about Sung Gu, but Kaylee kept bringing him up and you couldn’t hide the roll of your eyes anymore. You were a blunt drunk, something that had once amused Sung Gu. Sung Gu.
Your heart ached at the thought of him, and checked your phone to see a half hour had gone by. Maybe he wasn’t up at this hour like you were… His new girl must have been keeping him busy you thought ruefully.
~Kinda stressing like I'm gonna have a heart attack it's
Been an hour and you haven't even hit me back baby
Keep it real,
Tell me what's the deal
'Cause I miss you, you don't know how this feels~
You let your best friend lead you through crowds of people, every drink she handed you, you drank thankfully. Your thoughts traveled back to two months before when Sung Gu had told you that you guys should take a break to think about what you both wanted.
You checked your phone again to see an hour had gone by.
You sighed and angrily typed a text to him, you couldn’t stop yourself anymore. You wanted him to want you the way he used to. You wanted that magic back, When he used to hold your hand, or just say your name. You missed that.
You missed the way he would slip his arms around you from behind to rest his chin on your shoulder to watch you as you worked in the kitchen. You pushed the memories back as you felt the sting of tears threatening to come forward.
“C’mon,” you grabbed your best friend as you watched her throw herself at some guy she just met. You weren’t sure that she even knew his name.
When the two of you were outside, she thanked you for saving her from regretting something in the morning. You both made it to her apartment and you tucked her in after making sure that she had taken ibuprofen and had an entire glass of water.
~I know it's complicated
This always happens when I'm wasted~
You exited her building and realized you weren’t as gone as you thought you were as you stumbled down the street looking to see if you could hail a taxi.
Eventually you did, but you didn’t go home. You had the taxi drop you off at a park a block away from your apartment. You sat at a park bench and gazed up at the start thinking about your relationship with Sung Gu.
~3AM, yep I'm texting you once again
Even though I'm hanging with my friends
And I can't help it, I can't help myself, no
3AM, I might be looking for a late night friend and baby
I can't get you out my head
I can't help it, I can't help myself, no~
Things had been going so well, or so you thought. Clearly something was missing if he wasn’t part of your life anymore. But he said he just wanted to take a break. Your drunk mind tried to reason with you. He said his feelings hadn’t changed, but clearly that wasn’t the case if he was going to libraries with other girls you grumbled to yourself.
~I know, I know, I know
It's so wrong
Somebody take away my phone
'Cause I been drinking all night long
All night long
All night long~
Once again you pulled your phone out of your pocket. You sent him another text when you blinked back at your phone in surprise.
~I know, I know, I know
It's so wrong
Somebody take away my phone
'Cause I been drinking all night long
All night long
All night long~
You gasped looking over in the direction of your apartment. Your phone pinged again.
Please… ___-ah, I need to see you…
~3AM, yep I'm texting you once again
Even though I'm hanging with my friends
And I can't help it, I can't help myself, no
3AM, I might be looking for a late night friend and baby,
I can't get you out my head
I can't help it, I can't help myself, no~
You bolted up from the bench and ran to your apartment building, you stumbled slightly and tried to force your shaky fingers to enter the code to enter the building properly. After two failed attempts you cried in victory when the gate finally screeched and the red light changed to green to let you pass. Just as you were contemplating stairs or elevator, the elevator beeped signaling its arrival.
The doors opened to reveal Sung Gu and you stopped dead in your tracks as you gaped at him.
He looked at you in surprise, “____-ah…”
