I was just browsing the canning tag and saw this; you can use those lids (according to Ball). In my experience (~20 years) they tend to even out a little in simmering water and they seal just fine.
Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I discovered a weird second problem with the lids though. Most of them don’t pop back up once they’re unsealed. Like, most of them are definitely sealed, and it’s really difficult to get the lids off (on par with a properly boiled/sealed jar). But on top of that, once I open them, the little popper part of the lid stays down when I push it down, every time, so if I were to can with those lids, and the seal broke, I would never know, because the little button wouldn’t come up.
I think, with the mason jar shortage, they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel in their mason jar supply. It’s super bizarre though, because I ordered 4oz and 8oz jars and both of them had the same issue. I’m beginning to wonder if they’re haunted or something...
