No, because he was really trying to shoot his shot with Amell. Tbh I think Macklemore would have been afraid of Valeriana because of the blood magic rumors since half the Circle knew she had a Tevinter father. But could he become obsessed with Val in DA2? Sure, I could see it happening. Being Knight-Captain would definitely put him on a power trip, so whatever fear he had of Valeriana would dissipate. Plus, rejection is a fantastic way to get someone to go completely off the rails, especially for someone who can’t handle it.

“Why? So that abomination can come out of the sewers and endanger everyone in the city with his unchecked temper? Have you forgotten what he did to the mage he swore to protect?” Fenris scoffed in annoyance, despite feeling the unfamiliar sense of pity. Compassion.

It disgusted him. The resentment that he had for Valeriana had dissipated as he bore witness to the barbarism that mages had once inflicted upon him. But she was a mage, and Tevinter, at that. No matter how benevolent they seemed, they’d always abuse their power. She deserved no pity.

“But they—“

“They did what was necessary.” Fenris’ tone was cold as ice, his expression hard as stone. “Valeriana was as dangerous as they come. She is Tevinter by blood. That same evil flows through her veins. It’s only a matter of time before she would harm an innocent.”

“How could you say something so…so cruel?” Merrill held Valeriana’s body tighter in her arms, “She was good to you Fenris, no matter how much you pushed her away… She was kind!” Fenris’ tense posture relaxed as he digested Merrill’s words. It is true, she was good to him. Far better than he would have expected for seven long years. And then, he felt shame.

He sighed heavily, slipping a hand into his pack, before he wrapped nimble fingers around a healing potion encased in a stained glass bottle.

“Give this to her.” His voice was an octave lower, softer as he handed Merrill the elixir.
