theyre just such a good duo, they work so well in all of these classic dynamics, like, obv in the case of prince/rogue i see so much opportunity, and i love the way it syncs up w the two of them.
shiro being a charismatic leader that puts duty before self, keeping his back straight and his guard up even if the weight of the crown be heavy. and lance being a rogue with a heart of gold that does what he has to do, but takes every opportunity to Go Big and has big dreams to match lmao... but i cant decide how they Actually met :’)
maybe an overambitious scheme of lances ends with him coming face to face w the prince, and it goes far differently than he imagined. like, maybe he and his party set sights on a Nice transport, maybe they manage to quietly disarm the guards and separate them from the mark, only for lance to slip into the carriage and find himself face to face w the countrys FAMOUSLY BEAUTIFUL CROWNED PRINCE who, as he quickly finds out, is VERY capable of defending himself and leaving him flat on his back w stars in his eyes
they turn tail and lances team manages to save him, but like........ lance has an earring or ring or something of his that he snatched up in all of the ruckus. he doesnt tell anyone, tho, and they hawk the stuff they got off the guards, but he keeps it where he can stick his hand down in his pocket, feel the cool metal, and think abt that beautiful prince who is a force 2 be reckoned with
shiro thinks in passing of the thief with his roguish scar and a smirk to match, but politics have always been a little dangerous. he thinks about the way that lance looked up at him w those wide eyes in the moonlight, and then he quickly thinks abt something else... until he finds his missing jewelry on the sill of his window, right next to a pretty pale flower, then he cant really think of anything else
alt meetings include things like mistaken identity and starcrossed lovers, but either way they start to secretly sneak around and see each other, and shiro at first isnt sure whether he should be more concerned about the fact that lance is SO good at sneaking up to his heavily guarded chambers. hes pretty grateful for it later, tho, if u know what i mean ;0
rly tho, i love the idea of lance becoming like, gentler and expanding the scope of what he thinks hes capable of, wanting to be more than a thief, and someone who deserves the love of a prince. and i LOVE the idea of shiro letting his guard down and letting himself have this one thing, even tho it is so, so against the rules and would definitely cause a scandal
eventually i think shiro would hire lance and his pals to be like, spies and tools of recon and sabotage for the crown.... lance getting on the royal payroll and being able to provide for his family in ways he never could before, and taking the prince in disguise to meet them. hes a little embarrassed, since their lifestyle is comparatively humble, and his family is nervous at first abt how to act around a prince, but the ice is broken so frickin fast and they adopt him and feed him and shiro finds their warmth so secure and healing.........

bartender/customer is another shance staple i love, usually w bartender lance, and i see cheerleader/football player a lot but......... idk anything about sports........ but fuck i dig the aesthetic!! thank u for the au ideas <3333
