Guess who FINALLY watched S15 of Supernatural
So......I just rewatched Supernatural’s 10x05, Fan Fiction, and I think it is time for another unprompted and unwanted rant. Don’t get me wrong, I FUCKING LOVE this episode. I just rewatched it for the fourth or fifth time tonight and believe me, I was laughing hysterically and singing along the whole time.
Unfortunately, I noticed something that is making me sick to my stomach. I think we all remember the adorable Kristen playing Castiel the angel of Thursday. Her portrayal was absolutely spot on and her dynamic with Siobhan as Dean was incredible.
Kristen was too sweet and Nina Winkler played her spectacularly. I, however, finally noticed that Nina Winkler also played Adam in this episode as exemplified by the second gif. The third picture shows the final lineup of the episode, the final act of the musical.
In this rendition of the musical, the finale has all the characters Marie, the student director, finds most important to include in the finale. She includes Mary and John, the boy’s parents, Sam and Dean, the main characters, and Bobby, their surrogate father. The choice to keep Kristin playing Adam in the finale instead of Castiel, the best friend and true ally of the boys is an interesting choice to say the least.
In essence, Marie, the one who wrote the play and chose the finale, made the conscious decision to erase Castiel from the ending without a word. In addition, when Sam and Dean noticed the finale lineup, they asked about Adam, not where Castiel was. While this was just a joke referencing the running gag about forgetting Adam, but in addition to all the other events revolving around this single frame, it’s so much worse.
After the musical is done, Marie is approached by THE CHUCK and asks him for his opinion on HER INTERPRETATION OF HIS FINALE. He then looks at her, smiles, and tells her “not bad”. Chuck CANONICALLY was not disappointed in Marie’s interpretation that erased Castiel from the narrative.
This leads me to make a bit of a jump in logic, but hear me out. Perhaps, even this far before the series ended, Castiel was never meant to be in the ending. I mean, it was obvious Chuck was God since the beginning. Here, the writers knew what they were doing and what they were setting up. Chuck wanted to see his vision and how people were worshipping it. When he saw it produced in a fashion he liked, Chuck complimented the writer that produced it.
This episode was meant to be a love letter to the fans. While on the surface it is absolutely just that, it is deeper than that too. On the surface it tells a story of writing one’s own ending and being proud in one’s interpretation, but it also tells the story that no matter the interpretation, the original writers and creators make the final call. Marie was able to take pride in her interpretation, but it was Chuck, the writer of it all, that had the final say on the play in the end.
But isn’t that what this show has always been? It has always been us making our own stories, reading our own identities, finding our own paths through the kindness and trauma of the characters all to have it ripped away by the network censoring what we love. This episode gave us what we wanted plain as day but even when we got what we wanted they were shooting a clear message: we may write our own stories, but they decide the endings.
They decided not to include Castiel in the finale of a musical in season 10. That is no coincidence. Chuck liked the ending where Castiel was not included. That is not coincidence. The boys never asked about Castiel when they noticed he was not included. That is no coincidence.
They gave us the ending five years before it aired. Now tell me, was that really too far of a reach?
If Dean and Cas had to die, they could have at least pulled a San Junipero.
its a really good job that rory gilmore didnt end up with dean because otherwise she’d have to grow old with this
Exactly my thoughts😂
I just HAD to join yes this is exactly what u think it is
supernatural fans got played so fucking hard
Things I hated in the final:
That godawful wig
Sam‘s Faceless wife
The lack of Castiel
The lack of Jack
The lack of Eileen
Sam not giving the Keys for the MoL to Claire
Not mentioning Crowley
Sam not having pics of Cas and Jack
Only mentioning Cas and Jack twice
Things I liked in the final:
Dean dying the way he wanted to
Sam dying the way he wanted to
Castiel being officially back
Dean spawning to Bobby instead to John
Sam‘s Son
Sam being a good dad (we knew tho)
Dean Winchester jr saying the right words
Jack rebuilding heaven
Castiel choosing to be with his son instead of Dean (I said what I said)
“That kid of yours”
I actually liked the way Dean acted this episode, giving me flashbacks to early seasons
Dean getting his pie
The DOG YESSSSSS
J2’s acting
Dean’s death scene and getting a hunter funeral
Sam not bringing him back
No John Winchester
Sam and Dean in heaven
Carry on my wayward son in the end
DEAN SAYING ALWAYS KEEP FIGHTING, REFERRING TO AKF
Things I don’t know how to feel about
Dean Winchester Jr being a hunter
No Mary Winchester
No Jess
No Rowena
Sam leaving the bunker
Dean just driving around heaven?
