SPN Writer’s Room
Writer 1: So this season we’ll take advantage of our new parallel worlds by having a dual storyline. One featuring Asmodeus, the other Michael.
Writer 2: Very good, that’ll will easily fill 23 episodes, with room for experimental filler.
Writer 1: The dual storyline will of course be representative of Jack’s dual nature.
Writer 2: Naturally.
Writer 1: In addition to duality, we’ll also be carrying on the themes of family explored in season 12. Here represented by the boys being elevated from sons to caregivers.
Writer 2: Elegant in it’s simplicity.
Writer 1: Character wise Castiel will conquer his depression, segueing nicely into an Angel extinction narrative where he can redeem himself. Sam will atone for the sins of his youth by mentoring Jack, teaching him to control his powers. And Dean will finally learn to let down his guard, taking in young Jack, proving to himself he is a better man and father than dear departed John. He will even save Mary, a failing that perhaps Dean still subconsciously holds against John.
Writer 2: Marvelous! Simply Marvelous! A Shakespearean epic!
Writer 1: But, I still feel we’re missing something. A certain... “je ne sais quoi” to fully tie it all together, to fully explore the rich depths of these heroes.
Writer 2:
Writer 1:
Writer 2: Dinosaurs?
Writer 1: Dinosaurs.
