"TWIN PEAKS" S01E07 - "Realization Time"
doctor who fans are easy to post for. watch this: looms
There was a brief period after The Reality War where I thought Davies had brought Looms into TV Canon, and that somehow still wasn't the most baffling thing on that episode
as a denizen of this busted ass website for half my life now i do know how staff works and i’m going to lay out what they think will happen as someone who has witnessed this exact thing play out
People get very mad for a few days and then roll over and accept the change to the enclosure. This is what they are betting on. They have had meetings about this.
Getting around it: set an alarm. Get mad not just now, but in a few days, a week, two weeks. They are expecting people to sigh and get over this very odd edit to the site in a few days. Keep flooding them for more than just tonight. Be mad for the week, for the month. Leave a message every day.
like . I cant even blame them for being like “we’ll monitor for the week”. Remember when they changed the blue back in like 2015? This website acted like staff had gone into their house and shot their dog. We’re here because we’re allergic to change and therefore it’s hard to parse if people hate the change because it’s bad or because we go into thermonuclear meltdown over what color blue the background of the website is. Just continue to bug them beyond today and beyond this week.
so if you submit feedback on tumblr.com/support and get an automated message that ends with this, reply to the message AGAIN otherwise they'll kinda just disregard it (i know from my marked blog experience)
so apparently. tags also counts as adding something to the post????? on the tagging website??? both for commentary and organization??? you cannot tag bc that will steal the notes from op????
bc there was one post. where. hold on basically it went like this
op -> reblog with tags, no content in the post body -> my reblog (also just with tags)
and op wasn't able to see my reblog
so now the key feature of this site, the way people structure their blogs. tags. literally tags. are no longer possible. i genuinely cannot believe this. what
@staff as a Tumblr user for the last 12+ years, the idea of reblogs turning to "Twitter/Bluesky-like" chains is repulsive beyond comprehension. Tumblr is a blogging website. What makes Tumblr unique is the reblog system, where users can reblog a post to their blog and others can do the same.
What's NOT unique is hiding reblogs behind separate "chains." That just makes navigating this site even worse. Not only that, but it kills engagement.
Listen to the users of this website and DO NOT consider implementing this update @staff
The Buffy revival has been cancelled and I am filled with an overwhelming sadness, and incurable rage
so i’ve been watching twin peaks

1990, dir. David Lynch
There is genuinely no such thing as an inappropriate book for a child.
People in the tags who read Clan of the Cave Bear or Flowers in the Attic, but did you fucking die? You are fine like every other kid exposed to Jondalar’s turgid, upright member was fine. These are clearly ideal books for nine year olds because so many very alive and unharmed former nine year olds read the shit out of them and many adults find them boring.
Would you really be such a John Hughes adult kind of hypocrite as to rip the inspiring tale of Ayla, who invented aspirin, knitting and cunnilingus during the last ice age out of an elementary schooler’s hand?
If you don’t want kids to read a book, don’t allow it to portray a child’s actual, relateable anxieties around puberty, sex, adulthood and their parents in the most high gothic way possible. This is like preventing incest by locking your adolescent grandchildren in a small room with no access to non-family members.
-- Mitch Hedberg
I think we need to start being more nuanced with this take because yeah kids could probably read anything at 16-17 years old, but it's if they should.
Like not in a "I don't want my kids to read XYZ book" but in a "Are they actually capable of understanding and processing the material in the book properly."
Teenagers are not mentally adults. They will not be able to comprehend certain things because those are things that come with age, and life experience.
If you are willing to help guide a teenager through adult materials up to and including when to recognize when you should stop reading a book, then feel free to show whatever feel is going to help the child.
If you aren't willing to do this and just chuck a bunch of books at a teenager, then you're just setting them up for failure.
And if anyone has problems I'm an adult fiction writer who's a mom. My books read at 6th-8th grade reading level, because I write in casual, easy to digest language, much like how this post is written.
No. Did I fucking stutter? This is not a nuanced issue and especially in this dangerous political context, people who care about children should absolutely not yield to the opinions of shitty parents such as yourself.
I wasn’t even talking about teens! I was talking about elementary age kids reading sexual content not adolescents encountering new or difficult concepts! Jesus Christ! I think it’s genuinely worse than the moms for liberty style censorship to censor materials simple because an adult has made the call about what they might find easy enough to understand! How is a teenager supposed to gain wisdom and experiences if a bunch adult busy-bodies prevent them from exercising their own judgement about what they want to learn? At what point is someone who’s old enough to drive, have sex and be sentenced to life in prison also allowed to pick their own reading material? How is a person going to be able to understand or absorb ideas if they never get challenging practice?
I am an extremist on this because this is an issue of children’s basic human rights. It’s what American Library Association President Emily Drabinski calls a child’s “right to a private reading life” and“right to their own imagination and the sovereignty of their own minds.” Even your children have that right, despite having been born to a small-minded little tyrant who treats exposure to new ideas like a traumatic event. Yes, just throw books at teenagers! Let them be aware of a world outside their intellectually suffocating home life!
This post is circulating again and putting so many terrible takes in front of me that I must celebrate the funny tags expressing relateable experiences like understanding Stephen King better when you understand cocaine better.
[ID: Mitch Hedberg saying "Every book is a children's book if the kid can read." End ID]
I’ll be so fr if you don’t encounter media that fucks you up in some way as a kid, you will never reach your full potential
I know we all hate the new ui
Like, what even is this?!
And while it's great teamwork and all, please don't just promote extensions that fix the new ui update.
Staff is looking for feedback on this one. So please just go here, select feedback and tell them that you want the old ui back. You can still use extensions for now, but just also do this, so that staff knows that we all hate it and that we won't just begrudgingly get used to it (or all install extensions) like the last few times this happened.
Go complain! And not just in posts here! In their actual feedback place! Please! Even if it's just a short text. Just tell them that this sucks. Hopefully they'll listen.
Edit, because a lot of people have mentioned it in the notes: For the love of god, be polite! I hope this goes without saying.
it's finally that time of the year again for the clinically depressed newscaster describing february with disco elysium music
what is the single best line in this video
it's a month that doesn't hold up life any better than it really is
something great happened here but it's over with and that's the way february is
like the desperate flinging off of something that's not true anymore
the expedition is getting desperate. people are throwing things aside
this looks like a place where people who are being punished are sent
nobody is tap dancing or breaking into a rogers and hammerstein song
theyre just barely able to get across the street and hunker over a bowl of chili
most of the birds who can afford it have flown to florida
it's as if there's some awful truth out there in the trees
something that's been bothering you for a long time is out there. what is it?
to hide the bleakness of feb., man invented valentine's day. also mardi gras.
what other month can host a holiday designed to remind us we're all gonna die?
character limit forced me to paraphrase

im not even that pressed about the bigeneration. like i've made my peace w it.
ig the thing w bigeneration is, i've never been that fussed about it from a Lore perspective (it's w/e) it's more like
1: i think one some of the fundamental themes of the show are about change & moving on & acceptance and having the previous Doctor kick around and get a happy ending jars w those themes in a way i don't really like
2: this is especially bothersome bcos it was David Tennant lmao. like people's refusal to get over him is genuinely frustrating and making it so he's essentially the Doctor forever was like. stopppp. let him die. let him dieeeee.
3: also this point has been done to death but i do think it was a bad call to do all of that in conjunction w the first black Doctor and it did kind of give people an out on accepting Gatwa into their hearts. 'yes this guy is the Doctor now but don't worry David Tennant is still there and he lives w Donna forever and has his own tardis so they can go on adventures and' shut upppppp
My fundamental problem with the bi-generation is that it breaks the character's continuity of consciousness, china's central to how I understood regeneration.
That there was always one Doctor, who frequently underwent a process of violent and sudden change, but was always the same person underneath.
Bi-generation breaks this. There are now two people. Two separate individuals with equally valid claims to being the Doctor (even if one suddenly doesn't act like the Doctor anymore, for no good reason) and the show's decision to follow one over the other is completely arbitrary.
I hate this. I hate there being two Doctors. It breaks my brain and I long for it to be undone.
You can only reblog this today! Next time Thursday 20 will follow Wednesday 19 will be in 2439!
