Slowly making my way through requests after a long writing hiatus......
Request: Hi Phee!! I’ve read all your fics and they’re so goooddddd! I was wondering if you could do a con-artist!reader x bucky where he knows her before joining with the avengers and he calls her (unbeknownst to the Avengers) and she turns up and stuff??
Whoop, so here we go I’ll be trying to make my way through the list over the next couple of days and I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long and this has taken so long to get written :( xx

“The painting ‘Starry Night Over The Rhone’ has been stolen in transit from the Musee d’Orsay in Paris to The Metropolitan Museum of Art here in New York.”
Stark scoffed. “We’re the Avengers; why are you coming to us over art theft?”
“Because it’s not the first theft. There have been several other high-level thefts of a similar nature and we believe they’re all related.” Fury stared him down with his one eye.
Steve looked up from the file in front of him. “And by similar nature you mean?”
Fury leaned off the table. “All of them have been art thefts or valuable items. Moreover, they’ve all had the same signature left at the scene.” He pulled out an item and placed it on the table before flicking his coat and walking out the door.
On the table laid an origami swan.
A man who had been silent all the way through the meeting made eye-contact with femme fatale sat opposite him before walking out the room alongside everyone else.
Later that day, Bucky Barnes sat on the bed of the room Stark had given him spinning the burner phone in his hand. Coming to a conclusion he dialed a number and waited with baited breath.

You slipped past a businessman, sliding his wallet from his suit pocket and smirked before extracting the notes from the wallet, putting them into your own bag before doubling back and slipping the wallet back into the man’s pocket and continued down Fifth Avenue, no one any the wiser. You had barely moved when your phone began to ring causing you to raise it to an ear, only barely glancing at the Caller ID.
“Hey Barnes, it’s been a long time since you’ve decided to show face.” Your tone was light, showing nothing was meant by the comment.
“What can I say? It’s been rather busy.” The man replied with a chuckle.
You rolled your eyes. “Somehow, through magic obviously, I don’t think this is just a social call.”
“Damn doll, how could you have known; it must be the magic.”
You laughed into the phone at his sarcasm as you moved south. “How can I help?”
“Heard of the collectibles thefts going on at the moment? Well we’ve been assigned the case by Fury.”
“Wait Nick Fury as in the dead but now apparently not dead SHIELD director?”
“Yeah, but that’s not common intel so mind out. Thought the case may be of some interest to you if you wanted in, Y/N.”
“Consider my interest caught but tell them I want a 10% cut when I’m done because I already have it down to three people anyway. Are you based at the tower or some other ex-government secret base?”
Bucky laughed. “No, we’re at the tower. I’m guessing you’re on your way?”
“Make sure they’re ready for me. And tell Nat I’ve missed her.”
The line went as you ended the call, the Empire State Building and Avengers Tower coming into sight.
The doors loomed over your head as you pushed your way through the spinning door. you scanned the crowd before picking an employee. You flashed a smile onto your face bumping into the poor woman.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to! Here let me help.” You grabbed the files she had dropped on the floor with her help and as you handed them over you slid her badge off waist. “Once again miss, I’m so sorry!” Flashing an apologetic smile at her as you walked backwards to reach the gates. You scanned your new security card so the guard could buzz you through and you waited till you were out of sight in the elevator.
Scanning the card one more, the buttons became illuminated so you could choose the one you wanted. Ascending to what you knew to be the Avengers floor, you happily sipped your Starbucks drink you had acquired from reception and watched the numbers flash.
When the elevator opened with a ping you strolled out and surveyed it all. The modern design showed an open plan kitchen and living area with a large dining table to transition the two. Various things were scattered around the place: papers, files, a gun, and a few books on the kitchen island. Bucky stood there, arms crossed looking at you amused.
“Was the Starbucks necessary?”
You looked affronted. “Absolutely.”
You opened your arms and walked towards him as he did the same, his tightly wrapping around your waist and yours swung around his neck in a tight hug.
“It’s good to see you, Y/N.” He whispered.
“You too, James.” You pulled away and took a few steps around the kitchen, your hand just barely brushing over the gun on the side. “So now I’ve gone through weapon checks and reunions...”
The sound of a gun being cocked sounded behind you and you trailed off staring at James sending telepathic help signals.
James who was leaning forward on the island, smiled at the person and shook his head. “Oh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
A familiar female questioned it. “Why?”
You rolled your eyes sarcastically as you turned around head down. “Well for one it would bloody hurt.”
You could see the gun lowering through your hair before the grip tightening and a loud click was audible. And again. And again. And..
“Looking for this?” You lent back on the island, armed folded, holding the missing magazine from the gun.
“Y/N?” Natasha’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped ever so slightly.
“Hey Nat.” You smiled as she zoomed to embrace you in a tight hug.
“What are you doing here? Not that I’m not loving the fact you’re here.” Natasha took steps until she was with the rest of the team again.
“Well, mon cherie,” You moved around to lean on his shoulder in mock adoration. “Our darling soldier gave me a ring.”
James shrugged you off with a chuckle.
Steve Rogers, Captain America, stepped forward. “Who are y-”
“Oh my god! You guys could have told me that there was a legend in the building. Y/N L/N, I am a huge fan of your work and your innate ability to piss off almost any figure of authority there is. I mean it’s truly incredible and-”
“ Mr Stark. Thank you.” A deep voice cut the billionaire off as a man dressed in purely black garments walked in, an eye-patch and all. “Avengers, this is Y/N L/N, the best con-artist in the world.”
“Hey! Alleged con-artist. They never actually proved I did any of my alleged work. Besides I’m touched; you think I’m the best?”
“You said it yourself: everybody knows you did your ‘alleged’ work but they can never tie it to you making you the best, Y/N.” Natasha interrupted as she clicked the gun magazine back into place.
“Prove it.” Sam Wilson aka The Falcon.
You laughed. “Okay, sure. Can I borrow your wallet a second?”
He patted around his pockets only to look up and see you smirking, holding the wallet. “What? How? You haven’t even come near me?”
“You shouldn’t underestimate me, Wilson, it’s rather provocative.” You raised an eyebrow and twirled the wallet in my hand before tossing it back to him.
He opened it only to see brown leather.
“Missing these?” Your hand held his card and $65 in bills
“Yeah give ‘em back. That’s mine.” You laughed at him before sliding it along the counter to him.
“Yeah, I think I’m alright.” Although as you said this you were testing the balance of one of Barton’s knives he kept on him at all times.
Clint just stared at you entirely confused but accepted the knife gingerly when you held it for him.
“So, as your new Art theft consultant I will take the liberty of narrowing down the suspect list to three people.” You threw three folders from your bag onto the counter as Bucky stood next to you. “Yeah you have him to thank for this.”

"Paulina! What is Harvey doing tomorrow morning?" Was your greeting as both you and Harvey walked to his office.
Paulina looked up from her desk. "There's a meeting with Travis Hill at 10 and then a meeting with Andrew Washington at 3:30."
You nodded. "Okay then. Push the meeting with Hill. I need Harvey."
"How do you need me, Y/N?" Harvey smirked and raised an eyebrow at you.
"Jokes aside, Harvey. The phone call earlier wasn't just for fun; Mr Stark was calling me to tell me that Ross and his attorney turned up without my consent nor presence."
"God damn it, that's an offence. What are we doing tomorrow morning?"
"Going to court. We're getting a TRO for Ross. And a warning for his attorney, whoever the guy is."
"Good idea. Good to know I didn't hire you just based on looks.”
You smirked. “You think I'm pretty, Mr Scott?”
“Don't push it.” But even he couldn't keep the smile off his face.
The next morning, both you and Harvey, who had agreed to help you, stood in a court room with Emory Myers, the prosecuting attorney which you were not happy about in the slightest.
"I'm not in the habit of just handing out TROs, Miss L/N." The judge told you as you stood before her with Harvey at your side.
"I know your honour, now just hear me through. I had a phone call from my client yesterday afternoon stating that Secretary Ross and his attorney had visited them with my consent nor presence. All I ask is for a Temporary Restraining Order against Secretary Ross and a warning to Mr Myers for the offence."
Myers was quick to stand up for himself. "Your honour, we did no such thing as the defence claims."
"Objection, your honour! I have evidence to discredit his claims."
"Like what? Your honour, whatever it is it's completely fake." Myers was quick to rebut your statement.
"Well unless I woke up in Russia this morning, this transcript and video recording are very much real." Harvey smoothly discredited the man with a smirk.
"Please pass forward the evidence." The judge commanded and you did so, passing a memory stick and the transcription forward.
"This seems legitimate. Prosecution, do you have any evidence to discredit this."
"No, your honour."
"TRO and warning granted. Watch yourself, Mr Myers." The judge gave the man in question a meaningful glance.
You shared a look with Myers and said nothing as he glared at you, walking out. You calmly walked back to Harvey who was still stood, waiting for you.
“Miss L/N?”
You turned to face the judge. “Yes, your honour?”
“I must wish you luck. People are heavily ambivalent about the Avengers considering recent events. You're going to have to fight hard to convince the jury to see them as Not Guilty.” She looked at you seriously.
You inclined your head. “I know, your honour.”
She inclined her head in return before walking off. You turned to Harvey with a tired look on your face. “Why Myers? Of all the possible people why did it have to be him, Harvey?”
“The guy’s an asshole and you're going to be working like hell to win this case because goddamn it I am not letting you lose your winning streak now.”
“Not that you actually care about me then.”
“Of course not.” He said and you nodded smiling.
Back in the office, you were in over your head in work, relaxing sea waves sounds playing from your laptop. Well, when you say office, you meant building because truth be told, you were currently sat on a conference room table papers, strewn all around you; a black pen tucked into your messy bun; a highlighter in your mouth as you flicked through a file as you dived into the deep end of discovery. When Paulina had swung by with coffee she had just stared at you and wordlessly handed you the hot beverage. Honestly, she couldn't be blamed for her actions because there had to be at least fifty boxes packed with files and paperwork. She had left quickly and that was an hour ago. You hummed quietly, trying not to let the stress get to you but that was quickly ruined as a commotion started outside. Everyone was rushing to the elevators and you couldn't understand it in the slightest. Carefully manovering off the table without disrupting any of the papers, you quickly slipped your heels back on and paused the sea sounds before walking out to see what it was all about.
The thing is, you heard the problem before you could see it and what's worse, you could see Allanah Wood, the managing partner who took over when the firm ousted Hayden Hughes, making her way into the fray and the crowds parted like the Red Sea.
“Mr Stark, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Allanah’s polite voice made everyone go silent apart from the occasional whisper; because of this you slowed your stride to see how it would play out.
“I know it is. I'm here to ask a question to someone.” Tony’s ego never ceased to amaze you, despite the fact you had been friends with him for years.
“As Managing Partner here, you can ask me any questions you need to.” Allanah’s cool outward appearance shone through the curious cloud all the others present were emitting.
Tony laughed. “I'm sure I can but see, the thing is that I'm here for someone very specific and you won't be able to answer my question.”
“I wouldn't be so sure about that.”
“However, I am so sure though.” You stepped into the clearing of people next to Allanah who looked pissed that you were interfering.
“Bunny!” Tony grinned when he saw you and spun you around in his arms, which was very uncharacteristic for the billionaire and you quickly pushed him away for personal space. “It's been so long!”
You could feel rather than see all the looks you were getting and it was doing wonders for your confidence as it was sending it sky high. “Tony. I was there yesterday morning; that isn't exactly a long time ago.”
“Actually it is thirty two hours, twenty four minutes ago which, in case you hadn't noticed, is a very long time.” He looked very smug as he removed his glasses and looked around with that arrogant air that he somehow made work. “Thanks for the welcome party, Bunny, but it wasn't necessary.”
“Careful there, Tony, you almost sounded kind of humble.” You teased.
“Anyway,” The man swiftly ignored your comment. “You didn't come back to the tower last night.”
“Look around you Tony, we’re at my workplace which means I have a job and that therefore meaning I must have been working last night.” Sarcastically you answered his non-verbal question.
Tony looked affronted before schooling his expression into his signature smirk. “Are you coming back tonight then?”
You almost groaned at how persistent the man could be. “Let me show you something.” You dragged him away from the elevators, hardly noticing the gravitation towards you or Harvey magically appearing at your side. You walked him to the conference room you had been in. “See this? This is all for your little boy band. All 52 boxes and currently I've only gone through 3 and a bit of them. That's leaves 48 and a bit of them and that's-”
“That's 93% rounded to go.” Tony finished for you as Allanah was doing damage control outside and sending everyone back to work.
“And what have I told you about turning up at the office?” Tony looked at you and just grinned cheekily, knowing full well what had been discussed; the man was infuriating. You began to walk him out. “Now shoo! I have 48 boxes to do and 2 other cases going on so I really need to get back to work. So no, I doubt I'll be coming back tonight.”
You could have sworn Tony looked disappointed but you never got to see it properly before it disappeared. “I’ll see you soon then, Bunny.”
“Of course, Tony. You'll see me soon.” You both shared that knowing smile you had before he got in the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor.
“What the hell was that, L/N?” Allanah was waiting for you as you turned around to return to your files.
“That was my longest standing client doing what I told him not to do.” You replied, already walking back to the conference room
“And Tony Stark is your client?!” She sharply followed you into the room where she was quick to shut the door where Harvey was still stood there, looking at all the files sprawled on the table. “You know something, L/N, when I saw his name on the clientele list, I presumed he was one of the partners’ clients but no. He is your client and has been for a long time and you didn't feel the need to goddamn tell me?”
Allanah was angry and that much was blatantly clear.
“Forgive me, Miss Wood, but shouting around the fact that you have very famous clients doesn't normally do anything beneficial. You want to know the facts? Hughes gave him to me as my first client 9 years ago, told me to close him as Stark Industries. Couple months later I closed him as Tony Stark and I also took on Pepper Potts on as well, although nothing has ever risen for us to work together. You want to know more facts? The Avengers Corporation and each of its members joined my client list yesterday. Whoopie doo, there's my main 18 or so clients.”
Allanah’s expression was stormy yet no sharp tongued response came out. You were both staring each other down before she broke the silence. “Don’t screw this goddamn thing up.” She quickly brushed passed you and strode powerfully out of the other door at the end of the room
“Damn. You're in deep shit.” Harvey helpfully supplied as your prepared to kick off your heels again before stopping yourself.
“Can I work out of your office for a bit? I can not deal with this many people staring at me as I work.”
Harvey went to object. Therefore, your well-known puppy eyes came out.
With a roll of his eyes, Harvey grabbed one of the boxes. “Come on, puppy, grab the files and box you were on.” You grinned in success and followed his orders. As you shut the doors behind you, you locked them as well. “Those doors can be locked?” Harvey asked surprised.
You nodded as the pair of you walked to his office. “Electromagnetically, yes. That's why any files are done in that room for security purposes so what is confidential, stays confidential.”
“Huh.” The senior partner hummed intelligently as he opened the door of his office for you before closing it again. You sat down on to sofa in his office in what you had dubbed, ‘your corner’, as Harvey sat in the seat perpendicular to it. His jacket came off as did your heels as you both got comfy for a long night ahead. Glancing at Harvey, you quirked the corner of your lips up because despite the fact that you helped him on cases all the time, you were obligated to as he was your boss but here he was, dropping whatever he had been doing to help you.
The meeting with the Washingtons had been and gone with a successful wind; by now it was dark outside and soft jazz music was playing as the pair of you sipped some of Harvey's scotch, a further 19 boxes had been completed. Paulina had bid goodnight to you hours ago when she left so at that point Harvey had taken a break to finish what he had been doing before coming back to you. Humming you sifted through the files with your mentor, highlighting, annotating, sticky-noting, the whole lot and the pile of done boxes were slowly but surely piling up against the other side of the conference room to the uncompleted boxes.
The rapt sound of knuckles tapping glass dragged both of your attentions away from the papers. Allanah stood at the door, as regal looking as always. "It's getting late; how come both of you are still here?"
"Did you not see the conference room earlier?" Harvey leant back in his seat.
She tilted her head and walked in. "I did."
"That was only some of the boxes for the case I'm on." You temporarily stood up before resettling, legs folded underneath you meaning your skirt rode up to your lower thigh.
"And you convinced Harvey to help you?"
"Actually, he just sat down and started going through the files."
That caused Allanah to raise an eyebrow at the man in question. "Is that so?" Harvey nodded. "I couldn't let my dear associate drown in paperwork, now could I?"
You snorted into your hand. "You've let me drown in paperwork before."
He gave you a betrayed look and Allanah looked amused at the exchange “Feel free to get food on the firm’s pay. You're going to need it.” She gave you both a meaningful look before saying goodnight at walking out.
Harvey pulled out his work phone. “Pick a cuisine, hotshot.”
You smiled. “Pizza?”
“Pizza it is.” He called the 24 hour pizza place and placed the usual order you had.

Okay, I'm really sorry there hasn't been much Avengers in this story so far but I'm just setting up a base for the story to work on in the future and yes, Avengers are BIG in the next chapter; don't worry. Also, I'm still looking for pairing opinions for this story as I've currently got a wide range of responses.

OMG I AM SCREAMING! I RECEIVED SUCH POSISTIVE FEED BACK AND SO MANY TAG LIST REQUESTS! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
Anyway, that aside, thank you so much for your incredible reaction to the first part and I hope that you really like this part!
And without further ado, let's get into the second part!

“Stark, what the hell was that?!” Steve asked the second you were out of ear shot.
“Language.” Clint muttered but he went ignored
Sam snorted. “She's like Sherlock and Dr Watson all in one.”
“No. She's Y/N. You can't compare her to anyone else trust me.” Tony replied, completely unfazed by Steve's outburst.
“She just came up here with convenient perfect timing, happened to bring Chinese with all of our favourites that we didn't even know and can read people better than Romanoff and Buck? And you say she's a lawyer?” Steve crossed his arms and took a few steps back.
“It's not my story to tell but for the record, she's justified.” Tony was quick to defend you after years of loyalty.
Steve rolled his eyes. “Oh of course. Because you know all about ‘Bunny’, don't you? And justified? She speaks 9 languages fluently, and is highly trained in Ballet, Gymnastics and Martial arts!”
Bucky and Natasha shared an uneasy look.
“For God’s sake, Rogers! What is your problem with the girl? She knew this case had a less than fifty percent chance of winning it yet here she is, ready to bust her ass to make sure your asses don't end up in a maximum security prison that makes The Raft look like a five star hotel!”
“We risk our lives constantly to help protect the world and now you're telling us to put our trust in someone who is trained well enough to be one of us when we don't even know her!”
The tension in the room was thick and everyone was tense and ready to pounce the minute things headed south.
Tony stood up, slamming his glass on the table. “That's exactly what I'm telling you to do! You can't get yourself out of this mess on your own, admit it! You don't know jack shit about the law whereas she knows it inside and out, back to front! The reason she's speaks so many languages is because she enjoys being able to communicate with people in their own language!
“But Latin, Tony! Who the hells speaks Latin nowadays?” Steve threw his arms out in exasperation.
“I do.” Natasha piped up.
Bucky smirked. “So do I. And the population of the Vatican City does.”
“Well unless she represents the Pope it means nothing, Buck!”
Tony grinned. “Well, she doesn't represent him but she does have his number.”
“How the hell does she have the Pope’s number?” Sam butted in looking completely confused.
“Like I said, Pigeon; it's Y/N.”
“I don't trust her in any way, shape or form.” Steve steered the derailed conversation back on track.
“Captain Rogers. You don't necessarily have to trust her, only her abilities.” Vision spoke for the first time since you had originally arrived.
Steve took a look at everyone's faces before storming out the room.

You woke up the next morning to papers strewn all across the duvet and you laptop tilted to the side, precariously balancing on your thigh. Groaning and sitting upright, you began mentally preparing yourself for the the day. Today was the day the team was going to have to fill out the paperwork to officially take you on as their attorney and you were going to have to deal with trying to get Steve to sign two documents, since he was the leader of the Avengers as well.
The Avengers were a private organisation that therefore required even more paperwork to sign them on as your client. Jesus, you might just die today.
First things first, breakfast. You silently set about your routine. You whipped your hair up into a bun quickly before applying a natural makeup look, every colour in the nudes apart from a rose tinted lipstick. You shook your hair out and gently brushed it through; your hair was something you loved about yourself and took great pride in and hence you were very careful when you lightly curled it for the day. Opening the wardrobe, you took out a shirt and skirt that you had unpacked last night from your bag. Sliding into heels you set about gathering up your sheets and organising them into folders, snatching up the laptop and giving yourself a once over.
Yep, you looked ready to take on whatever the day threw at you.
You take that back.
Upon entering the kitchen, you decided that you were going to need a raise. Clint was sat on top of the fridge watching the mayhem unravel with a smile. Natasha and Wanda were sat quietly to one side, Wanda showing Natasha something on her phone. Vision was sort of just hovering by them confused. Peter, Tony, Sam and Scott were in the midst of a very intense food fight. Steve was sat on the sofa to one side drawing, judging by his hand motions. Bruce wasn't present yet. Rhodey was sat on one of the chairs to the side trying to stop the four but not really putting in effort and T’Challa was finishing up on a phone call before he came to stand by you.
You whistled but to no effect. “I believe the Colonel has already tried that and failed.” The King had traces of humour in his voice. “They remind me of the animals we have back home in Wakanda.”
You smiled at the man. “Wakanda must be stunning, your majesty.”
“Please, Miss L/N, there is no need for titles; you are doing my friends and myself a monumentus deed.”
“In that case, I must ask you to call me Y/N.”
T’Challa smiled at you before giving a brief polite nod. “I'm sure you need to speak to them, yes?”
You nodded in confirmation.
“Then I must suggest that you endeavour to find a way to get them to stop and then listen.”
You grinned. “I have a way. But no one’s going to like it.”
“And why is that?”
“Because it involves the knife attached to your right ankle.”
T’Challa shook his head quietly but nether the less, bent down and retrieved the knife for you. “I must request that you don't hurt anyone, Y/N.”
“Who said anything about hurting anyone?” You smirked before you spoke.
The knife had barely been in your hand before you threw it in a dead straight line to the other end of the kitchen, cutting through the food fight and burying itself with a loud thud in the cupboard door, next to the fridge. The room went silent in shock, no one moved until their heads turned to you.
“Excuse me!?” Tony shrieked.
“Get over it, Tony; both myself and Colonel Rhodes had tried to get you to stop but nobody listened.” You replied, completely calm with your game face on. “Now here's what's going to happen. You four, are going to clean up your mess; Miss Maximoff and Miss Romanoff, you're both going to go and get dressed; Colonel Rhodes if you could go and get Dr Banner it would be appreciated; Captain Rogers, it would be muchly appreciated if you could go and get Sergeant Barnes for us.”
“No need, Sugar, I'm right here.” Bucky winked at you as he walked in.
“Good morning, Sergeant Barnes.” You smiled politely at the soldier. You quickly fixed you attention back to its previous focus. “Mr Barton please get down from the fridge and pass me the knife back. And Mr Vision please can you help me in the kitchen once the boys are done cleaning up?”
Vision inclined his head. “Of course.”
“Thank you.”
"Bunny."
"Tony." You replied in the same type of voice.
Tony sighed dramatically before starting to tidy up and everyone jolted into action, following your instructions.
As soon as they had cleaned the counters, you immediately swooped in and began going around the kitchen.
"Mr Vision, where do you keep your bowls and utensils?" You asked as you opened cupboards at random.
"The culinary utensils are in the second draw to your left whilst the bowls are in the bottom cupboard to your right, Miss L/N."
"Please, just call me Y/N." You smiled as you glanced at him before taking the eggs and milk from the fridge.
"And in return I ask that you just call me Vision."
Grinning, you asked him. "Vision, where do you keep the flour and sugar?" He once again guided you to what you were looking for.
Before long there were pancakes and waffles cooking away, whilst others were stacked up on plates and cut fruit was in bowls, courtesy of Vision. You were wielding a spatula and kept whacking anyone's hands that tried to steal any. Moving gracefully around the kitchen, you laid the table and made everybody sit down before laying the food that you had made in the middle of the table as Vision followed with the fruit.
“Do you make breakfast for all your clients then?” Clint asked as everyone dug into the food.
“I don't normally stay with clients, Mr Barton; it’s that I've been working for Tony a long time and he now insists that I stay with him when I do. And from what I've heard none of you can really cook with the exception of a few.” You ate a mouthful of fruit.
“That's right, Legolas. Bunny’s here enough when she's doing things for me that I gave her a room about 7 years ago.” Tony piped in, drowning his waffles in syrup.
“Which reminds me...” You trailed off as you pushed your chair back and got up before grabbing the files you had brought with you. “You’re not going to like this but I've got paperwork for you. It's only a bunch of signatures and basic information.”
Groans met your admission.
“So that's why you made us breakfast!” Peter exclaimed.
You nodded sarcastically. “Well done, Mr Parker. If you want something from someone you have to give them something in return.”
Sam snorted into his coffee as you handed out the folders.
“We're going to need pens, Miss L/N.” Steve spoke directly to you for the second time since you arrived.
“Who would have known America’s golden boy had sass in him? There are pens in each of the folders if you open them.” Today was so not going as planned and you hadn't even gone through breakfast yet. “And I'd step to it, Captain Rogers, because you have twice as much than everyone else.”
“And why is that?”
You pouted dramatically at the man.
“I thought you were in charge of the Avengers and that means you have to do all the corporate paperwork as well. And I'm going to have to file it all today so I can get your case going.”
An hour later you were walking out of The Avengers Tower to hail a cab heading for the law firm Hughes and Wood for a day of paperwork.

You walked into work with a nod to the girls at the reception desk who smiled back at you. There was no one at work who flat out hated you to your knowledge. You mean, sure there were a couple you didn’t get along with but that was to be expected; because everyone had that, no matter who they were. You passed Paulina on your way and she gave you a grimace.
Jogging back you caught her arm. “Hey, Paulina, what’s up?”
“It’s Harvey. You’re late and there was a first thing meeting this morning with one of his clients: Washington Oil.”
“Shit.” You muttered. Harvey Scott, the man who hired you, Senior Partner at Hughes and Wood, was… well… Harvey was Harvey. Best closer in New York, loyal, always there, stubborn, secretly cares but never shows it unless he trusts, trustworthy, dependable, blunt, smart and he was one hell of a poker player.
“You’re his secretary slash my best friend can’t you help a girl out?” She gave you a look.
“I already have.” Paulina, the stunning redhead, told you before walking off.
Groaning, you hurried the rest of the way to your office only to see Harvey sat there, in your chair, facing away from you.
He spoke simply. “It’s 8:30. That’s half an hour after you have to be here. And an hour after when you should be here.”
“Okay, Harvey, since when did we use a time clock?” You joked as you plopped your bag by your desk and hung up your coat.
“What are the new Oil transportation laws instated?” He stood up.
You shook you head and moved around to your chair. “Oh they’re nothing; they’re just a nuisance.”
“Andrew Washington wanted to know about them because he was worried about them.”
You leant back in the chair as Harvey circled to the front of your desk. “Then tell him that he doesn’t need to worry because it’s just another form he has to fill out.”
“What I’m worried about is that I could have told him that in the meeting, had you been there. This morning. At 8.”
“But I checked the calendar! There was nothing on this morning.” You reached for your phone to double check.
“I know. It was spontaneous. And I was there. And you? You were not there.” Harvey stopped and paced slightly. “Did you hear me when I told you to get your shit together?”
You looked at him ludicrously. “Of course I listened and that’s why I’m late this morning.”
“Being late is not getting your shit together.” He picked up a file only to slam it down. “Get it through your head. We’ve just been under attack as a firm and the world knows it. We’re weak, Y/N, and in the law of the jungle the weak get eaten.”
You sighed and spun slightly on your chair. “Look Harvey, I’m sorry about being late this morning. If you’d just ease up and let me explain…”
“Ease up!?” Okay, wrong thing to say. “You’re telling me to ease up!? You’re telling me to ease up when our clients might be leaving? That’s right, David Houston might be leaving me. People don’t leave me!”
You blinked rapidly. “I, I just…”
“ENOUGH!”
You stood up from your chair sharply and Harvey took a step back. “No! Enough you, Harvey! You want to know why I was late! I was signing on fourteen new clients this morning. One of which is corporate. So before you go telling me what to and not to do, make sure you know the damn facts.”
“Y/N, look, I’m sorry. I-”
You gave a slight smile. “Harvey, it’s fine, I understand. I’ll try to be on time next time but right now, I have so much paperwork-”
“That’s generally what happens when you take on 14 clients.” Harvey sarcastically said as he hovered by the door to leave.
Childishly you poked your tongue out at your mentor. Checking to make sure no one could see, he pulled a silly face back at you. You smirked before flicking on the computer. You logged on and immediately started going through procedure and checking your work email. A knock on the glass wall of you office made you jump. You looked up to see the delivery man at the door, which happened seldom to not at all as the receptionists brought around any mail or parcels.
“Hi? Can I help you?” You stood up to walk over when you saw the flower bouquet in his hands. “I’m sure you know it’s not Valentine’s Day nor my birthday.”
The delivery guy, Robert, smiled. “I’m well aware Miss L/N, but this was left downstairs for you.”
You looked at him oddly and spotted Paulina watching from the corner of your eye. “Thanks for bringing them up for me, Robert.”
He nodded and disappeared off again. You studied the bouquet in your hands as Paulina slid gracefully through the door. “I know you can pull anyone but the delivery guy? He’s way out of your league, honey.”
Laughing at the jab you place the bouquet in a vase you kept in the cupboard in your desk for certain situations. “Apparently they were left for me at the front desk.” You removed the decorative wrapping and gently put the flowers in the vase.
“Ohhh, so Y/N has a secret admirer? Okay, we both know it’s not Jim from accounting.” She grinned before coming up for a closer look. Paulina looked at them before plucking something out. “Ah ha!”
In her hand was a small slip of paper which you were quick to snatch before opening it.
Hi Bunny,
The team wanted to say thank you for helping us out and we both know that you office is way to aesthetically perfect so we decided to send flowers. And when I say decided I mean Red said to. Hermione agreed and the guys don’t understand the female mind so then agreed with them.
I was going to send carrots but Legolas said it was too far.

You smiled at the note quietly and grabbed a photo holder to put the note in and placed it next to the flower neatly.
“Y/N, this is gossip time. Because I understood none of that and you’re smiling.” Her hand were on her hips, showcasing the raspberry dress she was wearing.
“Paulina. I’d love to but I can’t I have too much paperwork-”
“Then I’ll go and grab my laptop and join you here.”
As much as you dearly loved your friend, she was so stubborn. You tapped away with your case, adding all the new information to the system and going through any and every paper piece of evidence Tony had given you to make a head start on it. True to her word, Paulina came back with her laptop and sat with you in your Senior Associate office and listened as you explained as much of the story as you could. She was a great listener, only talking when she didn’t understand something or offering drink breaks. Several hours later you had finally explained everything between breaks, hot beverages, pastries, toilet breaks and work.
“So let me sum this up for me. You’re now the official attorney for the Avengers, the corporation and them themselves, to help with the Sokovia Accords and to make sure half of them don’t end up in deeper trouble.” By now, sushi lunch was sprawled out across you desk. You were a huge foodie and there was this one sushi bar that was only a couple blocks over and was incredible.
You nodded, covering your mouth with your chopsticks. “In a nutshell.”
“Damn. Can you get me an autograph or 14?” She joked and you laughed quietly.
“Sorry, no can do.”
She’s groaned dramatically. Paulina flopped back in her chair, hand splayed across her forehead. Rolling your eyes, you tapped quickly away at you computer because, at last, you were almost done. Paulina, knowing the signs of you almost finishing, began a countdown.
“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3…2..1.”
“DONE!” You shouted and spun a full circle in your chair, arms above your head in triumph.
You laughed happily and Paulina stood up and told you that she was going back to her desk outside Harvey’s office. Finally, it had taken you a good six hours to do all of the work and now you were chuffed that you had it done. You glanced at your phone to see that you had missed calls from Tony. Moving around your desk to shut the door, you tapped the redial button and moved the phone to your ear, pinning on your shoulders. The dial tone played as you started to move onto drafts of potential needed documents so you wouldn’t have to do them in a rush.
“Tony Stark speaking.”
“Tony, it’s me.”
“Hi me, I’m Tony.”
“Tony.” You warned with a roll of your eyes; You could hear the smirk in his voice. “You rang.”
“I did. Ross showed up with his attorney.” You immediately stopped what you were going and grabbed the phone before placing it on speaker on you desk.
“What! Please tell me you didn’t say anything.”
“I didn’t no. Romanoff and Barton took care of it with the odd sentence from other people.”
You swore under your breath as Harvey strolled into your office, file in hand. You motioned zipping his lips and nodded; he closed the door and said nothing as he sat in front of your desk.
“Were they diplomatic about it?” Your fingers were crossed.
“As much as they could be, being them.” Harvey stared at you in shock he began mouthing at you. Is that..?
You nodded and motioned for him to shut up. “I need you to give me details, Tony; I can’t work on kinda diplomatic.”
“I’ll have FRIDAY send over a recording and transcript.”
“Sent to Bunny, sir.” FRIDAY’s voice chimed in the background.
“Seriously Tony! You’re AI is in on it too?” You leant back in exasperation of your friend and client.
“That’s irrelevant. Are you coming back later?”
“Of course.” You had nodded before then realising he couldn’t see it.
“See ya later, carrot hater!”
Shaking you head with a smile, you replied. “In a while, Mr Senile!”
“Hey!” He objected but you had already ended the call.
Harvey sort of just stared at you. “Since when was Tony Stark been your client?”
You looked at him weirdly. “Since I got here almost, along with representing Stark Industries.”
“So let me guess, those fourteen clients weren’t any random fourteen.” He gave you ‘the Harvey Scott look’, as you and Paulina jokingly called it.
“Not really.”
“Damn, now I almost feel bad about getting angry at you.”
You snorted and span your chair. “No, you don’t.”
He nodded and stood up. “You’re right, I don’t because if I did, it would mean I cared about you.”
You gasped in mock hurt and grabbed you coat and bag. “Paulina and I both know you care about me really.”
“Whatever you say, kid.”
You got into the elevator and headed down, to meet Rae who was Harvey’s driver. In these situations you generally just trusted Harvey as to where you were going because most of the time, it was to a client and today was no different as you pulled up at Washington Oil’s headoffices thirty minutes later. You and Harvey discussed a brief plan on how to talk to Andrew Washington in the elevator’s rise up. When you did eventually step up, it wasn’t what you were expecting.
Andrew Washington was there, but so was a young boy with red puffy eyes and a box of tissues by his side.
When Andrew saw you, he stood up and moved away from the boy to talk to you. “I’m afraid business is going to have to wait. I know you don’t do pro bono cases but I need you to do this. His… his parents, my brother and sister in law, they were killed by a drunk driver.”
Involuntarily, you sucked a sharp breath in. “How old is he? You nephew.” Your chest was constricting rapidly.
“He’s twelve. He’s going to be staying with me from now on.”
“Of course. We’ll make an exception.” Harvey was glancing wearily at you as you stuttered into a walk towards the boy.
In front of him, you crouched down to be level. “Hi there, I’m Y/N. I’m here to he-”
“To help me. Yeah, I get it.” The boy sniffled.
You let out a small chuckle. “What’s your name?”
“Toby, but Uncle Andrew calls me Tobias.”
“So, Toby, what’s your favourite ice cream?” You asked and adjusted your feet under you.
“I don’t see how that’s relevant.”
“It’s absolutely relevant.” You replied. “Ice cream has special properties to make you feel better."
"I don’t believe you.” Toby pouted petulantly.
You put on a grin. “When you come over our office, there’ll be ice cream waiting for you.”
“Strawberry.” He said quietly and you knew you had gotten somewhere.
“Hey, little man!” Harvey came over to join the pair of you and sat next to Toby on the sofa. “We’re not going to pressure you into talking but when you’re ready, let Uncle Andrew know and then he can tell us.” He glanced at you and looked terrified.
You nodded encouragingly. “We’ll see you soon, Toby, okay?"
The young boy nodded. You glanced at Andrew Washington and he nodded to Harvey. They had obviously done all the technicalities whilst you had been talking to the boy. Your heart swelled slightly at the thought he was doing this case so you didn’t have to do it by yourself. So you brought it up on the way back to headquarters.
“Thank you, Harvey, for this.” You were studiously looking out of your window on the left hand side. It was practically a religion that the pair of you always sat in the back and on the left and he sat on the right.
“It’s what we do, Y/N, you know that.” He replied quietly.
“Have I told you the real reason I wanted to become a lawyer?” You moved away from the window to look at him.
“Once or twice.”
You smiled slightly. “Three’s a charm. I wanted to become a lawyer because my parents were killed by a drunk driver when I was only 10. My grandma took me in but it always hard having to explain to other people why I didn’t have parents. The lawyer who was in charge of our case didn’t give a damn, I could tell, and that’s why I wanted to become a lawyer; so it didn’t happen to other people who needed help.”
Harvey turned to look you in the eye. “You’ve definitely helped more than enough people to make up for what he did. You’re a damn good lawyer.”
You smiled. “But not as good as you.”
Harvey chuckled. “That goes without saying.”
