Spinel Sun (affectionately called Suppi or Spinny) and Ruby Moon are a guardian entities created by Clow Reed as Eriol Hiiragizawa. They were created to be counterparts to Kerberos and Yue and to protect Clow Reed in their place.
In his temporary form, Spinel Sun looks like a small black cat, almost like a plush toy. He las large eyes, sheer butterfly-like wings, and his tail curls distinctively at the end. Once transformed, he grows into a panther-like beast with pointed ears and large dark butterfly wings. He is adorned with teal gems and markings as well as silver armor.
Like her counterpart Yue, Ruby Moon is an attractive humanoid entity. While Ruby Moon is genderless, she prefers feminine pronouns and takes the temporary form of an androgynous high school girl named Nakuru Akizuki. As her name suggests, Ruby Moon’s final form sports vibrant red accents and similar butterfly motifs to her companion Spinel Sun.

This post is part a series covering entities from mahō shōjo media. These posts are intended to introduce you to powerful spirits that could aid you in your magical journey! If you have any suggestions for future entries, or if you have worked with any of these beings and want to share your experiences, please feel free to send me a message! ☆
Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon can almost be described as mirror images of Kerberos and Yue, in appearance and personality. However, they can be considered more powerful since their magic is not intrinsically linked to the Clow (or Sakura) Cards—rather they rely solely on the strength of their master. (Although while Kero and Yue can change into their temporary and full forms at will, Spinel and Ruby need Eriol’s assistance.)
In their true forms, Spinel and Ruby have similar abilities to Kero and Yue.
Associations
Like their counterparts, Spinel Sun is a solar entity while Ruby Moon is lunar. They could be considered the ‘dark’ aspects of the Sun and the Moon.
Their names also refer to specific gemstones: spinel, a dark blue-purple stone, and ruby, respectively.
Magical Applications
Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon originally arrived in Tomoeda with their master Eriol in order to create situations for Sakura to transform her newly acquired Clow Cards into her own Sakura Cards. While they could potentially aid you in similar pathworkings, they may just offer general assistance in magical affairs. Like Kero and Yue, they are extremely good at sensing magical energy.
Spinel is incredibly knowledgeable in many areas of magic and spends most of his free time studying and pouring over grimoires and magical texts. In contrast, Ruby excels in needling into personal relationships due to her extroverted nature.
Suggestions for Offerings or Devotional Acts
While Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon also do not need food or drink to survive, they generally will not refuse a nice cup of tea. Do not feed Spinel sweets though! He generally prefers spicy foods and avoids sweet things but if he is force-fed sugar he will behave erratically until he inevitably crashes.
Unlike their counterpart, Spinel Sun prefers quiet time with a good book but will sometimes play video games with Kero. Ruby cannot stand boredom and loves to pester people and occasionally pull little pranks.
If you’re considering designating space for Spinel and Ruby in your practice, consider adorning associated items or altars with their namesake gems or dark-colored butterflies, particularly swallowtails.
Reading more ccs. I feel like 20 years after the events of it, there would be a lot of youtube speedrunning documentaries about how sungod1999 (kero) faked a bunch of submitted high scores to old 2001 video game forums that escalated out of control. Suppie always makes sure to send a link to the videos when they come out to kero.
