Coming out Trans at Work - well that was unexpected
My line manager is leaving soon, I’d already had the chat with him and he was cool about it, but I don’t much fancy having that conversation again with a complete stranger, so I had a brave moment while the office was empty and I told the Boss.
Her response -
“That’s great news, thanks for telling me! A friend of mine transitioned a few years ago when he worked here. He’s a Trans advocate now, do you want his details? You’re going to love it when you start T, your muscles are going to get big.”
WTF?!
She suspected the truth but was polite enough to say nothing, she knows I do bodybuilding and it’s important to me, and now she’s actively helping me to get support.
I was expecting a ten minute explanation and then to run away, instead it was a great half an hour with someone who has watched a friend go through the exact journey I am beginning. I still have to come out to the rest of the team (most of them anyway), but I feel so much better now knowing the Boss has my back.
