Countess Markievicz ⠀⠀ - For all the Invisible women of our history and the history of Art in general. For one, I NEVER knew that Countess Markievicz was a painter herself. This isn’t her work but a portrait of her painted by a friend at the time. ⠀⠀ When we look back at our most beloved Classic works, we are looking back through a very male dominated perspective. Women were barely allowed into these circles and if they were, they weren’t allowed do much. (And lets not even begin to get into how these circles were mostly made of rich people to begin with). ⠀⠀ Today, ironically that table have turned and it would seem the arts are a predominantly female field, and men still participate but it is no longer held in the same respect as it used to be(I wonder what that’s all about...although saying that the top players of the field seem to be equally matched. ) ⠀⠀ I cannot, as a women imagine what it must have been like to not be allowed to make art or be creative for work. So it’s nice to be able to look back and give these forgotten women the appreciation they deserve. ⠀⠀ The National Gallery of Ireland has a mini exhibition going on there the last time I was there, all about the prominent women of Ireland’s forgotten achievements. ⠀⠀ It’s free. ___________________________________________ ⠀⠀ #supportthearts #supportarts #supportgalleries #ngi #nationalgalleryofireland #countessmarkievicz #portraits #classicart #classics #classicalart #rememberingwomeninourhistory #historicalwomen #womeninhistory #ipreview @preview.app (at National Gallery of Ireland) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqyAUcMlHUE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1st57tuls5zd6
