The clock on the bathroom wall ticked faintly as Elias Brant stirred, half-asleep and half-regretful, his head resting against the cool edge of the bathtub. The muffled bass from last night’s party still pulsed faintly in his memory — the laughter, the music, the bad decisions all swirling together into one blur of light and noise.
The door creaked open, and Jordan Vale poked his head in, his voice a whisper somewhere between amusement and concern. “Dude… you good?”
Elias groaned, not lifting his head. “Define good.”
Jordan chuckled, stepping inside and tossing a water bottle onto the bathmat. “You passed out before the Uber even showed up. We thought you made it home.”
Elias finally cracked one eye open, his surroundings spinning just a little. “Guess I made it halfway,” he muttered.
Jordan crouched down, giving him that look only friends who have seen too much can give — equal parts sympathy and judgment. “You’re lucky I came to grab my charger. Otherwise, you’d have fused with the tile by morning.”
Elias let out a weak laugh, reaching for the water. “Remind me to never mix rum and energy drinks again.”
Jordan smirked. “I’d remind you, but you’ll forget by Friday.”
Outside, the first rays of dawn began to filter through the small bathroom window, washing the room in pale gold. Elias sat there for a moment, the weight of the night dissolving into a quiet resolve — the kind only found in hangover mornings and second chances.
“Coffee?” Jordan offered.
“Please,” Elias replied, voice rough but smiling now.
They left the bathroom, the night finally giving way to morning — and the promise of stories they’d laugh about for years.
Where do I find myself a hype man as great as Rook?
