Due to a programming error, it is possible to surf through the door in Aaron’s room in the Pokemon League in Japanese versions of Diamond and Pearl. This can be exploited to access areas such as Newmoon Island and Flower Paradise to obtain Darkrai and Shaymin without the use of Mystery Gift events, however there is a risk of becoming permanently stuck in the void if the player incorrectly counts their steps or saves their game.

This game was officially acknowledged by Nintendo and fixed in international releases of the game, and patches were distributed via DS download stations that teleported the player back to Twinleaf Town to resume their game.
