In Martinique, there are a surf spot named Tartane. That’s where we slept for a few days. We decided to make some research about surf schools in Martinique, and the best recommended was “SURF UP”. Me and my surf buddy, decided to go surfing. It was the first time for me so I was a little bit stressed at first. We called and took an appointment for the afternoon. The prices were very affordable, we only payed 30 euro for an hour and a half.
We had a great teacher and were in a group of eight people. We made a moment of theory but not so long and went directly to the beach, in the water... it was a very amazing feeling to be on the big surf for the first time ! We followed the teacher and one by one, we took the waves with the help of the teacher. It is not easy to stand up on the surf and the ocean was a little turbulent, but I managed to stand on my board for a few seconds on the first try :) I was pretty proud of myself.
We had a super big board because we are beginners. The big board is wider and heavier to have a better stability for beginners. If we get better surfers, we will probably have a larger board so it will be lighter to carry.
Surfing is very sportive. We have to paddle so much, we fall very often and have to stand up again.. but it is amazing. It was a very nice experience and I want to make it again this summer.
Me and a group of friends, wanted to go this summer in Arcachon, France and surf there. We know a few persons there and it could be cool to meet them again.
