Rest In Peace, Randy Nauert, bassist of Hollywood Surf band, the Challengers 🎸🎶📀. This cover is in tribute to his very recent passing... I’m kinda shocked at the news 😧😢 (Image scanned from the "California Kicks" Lp by the Challengers on GNP Crescendo, 1966 ) : OMG! 😧 Just heard the very, very sad news of the passing of my FB friend, Randy Nauert (bassist of the Challengers! And close friend of legendary Surfer and Psychedelic artist, Rick Griffin... ), apparently from a heart-attack (after some very hard times following the massive forest fires last tragic summer in California : his house in the mountains was burned to the ground, he lost everything! )... #TBT to the early 2000s when I was more involved in being a production artist and did this commission for Dancing Bear Records, a small Croatian label. "For A Few Guitars More - A Tribute To (Ennio) Morricone's Spaghetti Western Themes" features a plethora of international surf instrumental bands. (The guitarists from Slacktone and Huevos Rancheros), Davie Allan, The Penetrators and Pollo Del Mar were among the domestic groups. The Go-Go's "Surfing And Spying," a b-side of the "Our Lips Are Sealed" single and a Ventures cover. (IRS Records, 1981) The Ventures actually opened for the Go-Go's in the early 80s as interest in the seminal surf band had arguably waned.
