The school stood still as Marinette Dupain-Cheng walked hand in hand with some random guy, leaving Adrien Agreste, alone on the school steps. She had kissed this guy and claimed Adrien was just a friend. Everyone glanced between the former 'couple' and watched as Adrien's face revealed his true feelings. Whispers began to formulate and pass though the crowd.
Did Marinette cheat on Adrien? Had they ever been together? Who confessed to who? Did anyone know? Did Adrien dump her? Was the guy a rebound? Did she leave Adrien?
Alya couldn't stand not knowing.
"Nino, talk to Adrien and I'll talk to Mari." Alya insisted, "We'll get to the bottom of this!"
She had to protect her best friend. Nino quickly side-stepped Marinette and hurried to his best friend's side.
"Hey, Mari!" Alya exclaimed, loudly.
"Alya!" Marinette cried, hugging her friend.
"Girl! You look so different." Alya said , pulling away.
Her pigtails were gone and her clothes were a mix of dark, but colorful. Alya quickly noticed her smile was brighter.
"I like it. It suits you." her best friend spoke with a smile.
Alya glanced over to the new guy she had walked in with. He raised his brow at her.
"Mari, who's the stiff?" she whispered.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! Damian, this is Alya; my best friend. Alya, this is Damian; my boyfriend!" Marinette announced, happily.
Alya took notice that Adrien had fled the scene with Nino hot on his tails.
"I was going to introduce you to him at lunch." Marinette continued.
"Do you think we can catch up after school? I didn't get to see you all summer." Alya asked, feeling her phone vibrate in her hand.
"Tomorrow." Mari asked, "Damian and I have a date planned tonight and I think, you're skyping with your family tomorrow?"
He nodded in response.
"Great! Sounds like a plan." Alya smiled, waving as Marinette walked away with her boyfriend.
'Boyfriend? What the fuck just happened?'
She pulled out her phone and read Nino's text.
Dealing with it. Head to class. Explain later.
Alya sighed as she made her way to class.
Adrien watched as Marinette dragged her boyfriend to their table.
'Maybe eating at home won't be so bad today.'
Natalie immediately noticed something was off with her charge as soon as he sat in the vehicle.
"What happened at school?" she questioned.
"I realized something too late." Adrien spoke, sadly, "There's no reason to inform Father. It won't affect my school work and is not school related."
"Make sure you eat before you return to school." Natalie spoke as the reached the manor.
Adrien nodded and made his way to the table.
Adrien smiled at the camera, holding his posture and smile perfectly. The shoot was going quickly, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw pink.
He quickly glanced over and saw Marinette with her boyfriend, getting ice cream at Andre's cart.
'They're already getting cones together?'
"Adrien, you need to focus! The photos your father requires demand perfection!" the photographer cried.
'I don't feel perfect.' he thought, gazing at Marinette.
Natalie followed his eye sight and saw the Dupain-Cheng girl with a boy, smiling and laughing. She sighed and quickly cancelled the shoot.
"But Mr. Agreste-" the photographer began.
"I will deal with Mr. Agreste. I don't think we'll get any more shots out of Adrien today." she spoke, "Pack up; the shoot will be rescheduled. Adrien, let's go."
He followed her wordlessly to the car.
"I assumed you had told her your feelings long before now." Natalie stated.
Adrien blinked back his tears.
"I-" he began, "She told me and I said no. I said we were only friends."
She sighed, She didn't blame him. Gabriel couldn't read his own emotions and it seemed that Gabriel's lack of empathy had caught up with his son. Adrien had missed out on a chance to acknowledge his feelings.
"Is she still your friend?" she asked.
"I think so." Adrien sniffed.
"Then, at least you have that. Not everyone stays friends with someone they had feelings for. It will be painful, at first, but you'll survive." Natalie commented.
Adrien took a peek to see she had turned to face outside the window. He frowned, realizing she might have been talking from experience.
Once they reached the house, he exited the car and went to his room. He crawled into his bed and began to sob.
It was just as hard the next day. It hurt to see them together. Marinette would smile at him, but he knew it wasn't the same ones she use to give him. Somehow the smiles she showed her boyfriend were brighter. He could see she meant those smiles.
It hurt to see Marinette hold hands with the new guy. Sometimes, they would just casually be in each other's arms. It reminded him of how he use to hold her in her room. When they cuddled under blankets as they watched movies. How he's bring her close so he could feel her warmth.
As school let out, he watched as they crossed the street to her family's bakery.
"I'll text you later." Marinette spoke.
Damian nodded in response.
Alya quickly rushed over to the bakery, noticing Damian was still there.
'I thought we had plans tonight?'
Damian entered the bakery and quickly exited with his black helmet and leather jacket. He threw his jacket on as he exited the bakery and pulled out the keys to his bike. Damian went over and straddled his bike as he revved it to start.
Marinette quickly went over and kissed him.
"Be safe." Marinette whispered.
"Always, Angel." Damian said, kissing her forehead.
He placed his helmet on and closed the visor as he took off down the street.
Adrien watched from across the street as Marinette's gaze never left Damian's back. He quickly made his way to the car. He just wanted to go home.
"We need to talk. Now!" Alya spoke, as she dragged her best friend though the front doors and up to her room.
"What the hell was that?" shouted Alya , the second Marinette shut her door.
"What's what?" asked Marinette, confused.
"A boyfriend!" she shrieked, "What happened to Adrien?"
Marinette sighed and threw herself on her chaise.
"Adrien and I are just friends." she commented.
"Mari-" Alya began.
"I confessed last year." Marinette said, not looking towards her friend.
"What?" her best friend questioned, "And you didn't say anything?"
"Cause I didn't want to make it a big deal!" Mari cried out.
"You finally confess to your crush and it's not a big deal?" Alya asked, "What's really going on?"
Marinette kicked off her shoes and sat up.
"Since you and Nino are always together and I know you were trying to set us up, we……bonded." Mari admitted, "We became better friends."
"I know." Alya said, dragging Marinette's desk chair closer to the girl, "You guys looked happy. A lot of us thought you were dating. Did you date?"
Marinette shook her head, remembering how Adrien had made her feel.
"We got close. Adrien would come over or would ask me to hang out with him. " Marinette spoke, "Just the two of us."
"Like a date?" Alya teased.
"I thought so." Marinette frowned, "We would cuddle and he'd kiss my cheek. Sometimes on the lip, but then he'd just smile. Like 'oops'?"
Marinette groaned as she laid back, sifting through old feelings.
"I thought he had feelings for me, but anytime I'd want to do something, just the two of us, he'd say no. No problem, except I'd get text messages from him later saying things like: Wishing you were here or I miss you." she sighed.
Alya frowned as she listened to what had be going on with her friends.
"I felt like I was a yo-yoing between friend and girlfriend. I needed to know. So, I decided that if we got together, okay, but if not, things wouldn't be like before. I confessed. He told me there was nothing wrong with how we were and that we were friends." Marinette looked to Alya, to guage her reaction.
"Are you okay….with all that? With what happened between you two?" Alya asked concerned.
"It hurt. I seriously thought he liked me." Marinette whispered, "I told Maman and she had Papa get me some ice cream. She made my favorite dinner. It felt like I cried all night. I threw out all the pictures and gifts. I went to school the next day and acted like it never happened. That was hard."
"Wait!" her best friend exclaimed, "Is this why things got so weird between you two, at the end of the year?"
"What do you mean?" Marinette asked, sitting up.
"You kept inviting people everywhere." Alya declared.
"Yeah. He said I was a friend so….I made sure he only saw me as a friend." she shrugged, "I knew he wouldn't try to cuddle or kiss me with other people around. He never did. I don't think he got the hints. Sometimes I'd ask people and he would say no, it was something just for us. So then I'd walk away and say I was too busy, instead."
"Wow." Alya whispered, taking everything in.
"I did bring him back here, sometimes, but we never went to my room. We'd stay in the living roon. He'd try to suggest coming up her, but I'd tell him it was a mess and it's not like anything else would happen up here. He'd try to grab my hand and I'd pull it away." Marinette revealed, "He'd always look shocked. I'd text Maman for some food and say I was texting you. Usually, she'd hover for awhile."
"I wish you had told me so I could have helped you more." Alya frowned.
"He stopped by in the summer. I don't know what he wanted. He left after he found out I wasn't here." Marinette spoke, "My Nona showed up on the last day of school and said she was going to the States for awhile. She wanted to know if I could go. She was only going for the summer. My parents thought it was a good idea. So, I left without telling anyone."
"So…..how did you land Damian?" her best friend asked, "He's not a rebound, is he?"
"No!" Marinette shouted, "I really like him!"
Alya watched as Marinette started smiling softly.
"Damn." the journalist whistled, "I haven't seen you smile like that since you stated crushing on Adrien. Whoops!"
"It's okay." Marinette stated, "Adrien is in the past. I didn't plan on falling for anyone. We met in Gotham. Someone tried to rob us and I disarmed -
"You? Disarming someone? You tripped up the stairs like thirty minutes ago!" Alya interrupted.
"You dragged me up the stairs and ….. Maman wanted me to learn self defense…..in case Adrien got…. too handsy." Marinette blushed.
"What happened next?" Alya asked, leaving Marinette's new self defense skills for another time.
"That's when I met Damian." Marinette smiled, "He helped us and called the GCPD. He showed us around Gotham. Apparently, Nona knows someone in his family and we were staying with them. We hung out all summer. He helped me perfect my forms and taught me some more martial arts. He's into art; he draws and paints! He loves animals! He has so many pets. They were so cute! Damian's amazing!"
"Sounds like you fell hard." Alya laughed, as they slid into Marinette's gush routine.
Marinette nodded, happily.
"How about we make plans to gush more about your boyfriend later? You can tell me how amazing he is then. I gotta go home in a bit." the journalist commented, "Was he visiting family, as well?"
"No. Damian lives there." Mari replied.
"Wait! What?" Alya shouted, "The boy straight up leaves his family to be with you?"
Marinette blushed as she nodded.
"The-They didn't mind. As long as he was happy and-" Mari began.
"Daaaamn!" Alya cried, "Well, Adrien's an idiot, but I'm glad you're happy."
Marinette hugged her friend. It felt good to tell her what had been going on.
Marinette pulled away, excitedly, from her friend as her phone began to ring. Alya took a peek and saw that it read 'My Dove'.
'Must be her name for Damian.' Alya smiled to herself.
"Go ahead and answer it. I should get going anyways." she spoke, picking up her bag.
"Hey, Dami." Mari answered.
"Hello, Angel." he responded.
'So cute!' Alya fangirled.
"Did your call go okay?" Marinette asked.
"Yes. My father wants me to look for a place to reside." Damian stated.
"That's reasonable." his girlfriend spoke back, as she opened the door.
"I was thinking, Angel, maybe, I could find us a place." Damian said, taking a shot in the dark.
"Us?" Marinette asked, pausing at the top of the stairs.
'Did he just ask her to move in with him?' Alya wondered, stopping on the stairs.
"I'd…have to ask my parents. I'll call you in a bit. Alya's heading home and I'm walking her out." Marinette continued.
"Okay, Angel." Damian spoke, before hanging up.
Alya hesitantly walked down the stairs.
'Marinette isn't really considering moving in with him, right? She does seem just as smitten as she was with Adrien, though. I wonder if she have their kids' names picked out.'
"Are you-" she began to question.
"Maman." Marinette started.
"You're not on the phone with Damian?" Sabine questioned, confused.
'They must have a schedule.'
"I will be in a bit. Alya is heading home, but Damian had a question for me." she continued.
"Oh?" Sabine asked, "You know he is always welcomed here and you're allowed to go on dates, as long as homework is done."
Tom nodded in agreement as he placed the fresh bread out.
"Bruce wants him to get his own place. Um…..Damian asked me….to move in with him? " Marinette mumbled out, but the message got across.
Alya watched as Tom and Sabine took in the shocking announcement.
"Maybe, we should talk to him." Tom suggested.
"I can call him." Marinette said.
"Now." Sabine demanded with a smile.
"Okay." she shrugged.
Marinette dialed her boyfriend who picked up immediately and made it a video call.
"Dami, my parents wanted to speak with you." Mari spoke, as waved to him.
"Of course, Angel." he answered, before she turned the camera.
"Marinette said your father wanted you to find a place?" Sabine asked, starting off slow.
"Yes." Damian answered.
"What kind of place?" questioned Tom.
"A studio if I live by myself, but I have asked Marinette to move in with me. If she agrees, I'll look for a three bedroom." he spoke, without hesitation.
"Why?" asked her mother.
"For privacy. We would both have our own room, that locks, and Marinette would have a sewing room for her to work in." Damian stated.
"Awwww." Marinette gushed, "That's so sweet!"
"We'd prefer if we could speak to your father when he isn't busy." Sabine commented.
"Lunch tomorrow?" suggested the young Wayne.
"Yes, Son. That's a good time." Tom spoke, paling.
"Bye, Mari." Alya waved, walking out the door.
"Bye, Alya." Marinette waved, as she headed back upstairs.
'That boy done fucked up!'
Alya walked up to Adrien and Nino the next day and slammed her lunch on to the table.
"You done fucked up!" she shouted, pointing to the blonde model.
"What?" he questioned.
"Is this about Mari's boyfriend?" asked Nino.
Alya turned to her boyfriend and spoke, "Babe, I'ma need you to translate for me."
"What?" Adrien asked again.
"We're going from girl talk to mansplaining to idiot." Alya commented.
"Hey! That's not fair!" Nino spoke up in his best friend's defense., looking at Adrien's sad face.
"Oh! You'll be on my side in a minute!" she declared.
"Adrien, you sent so many mixed signals to my girl, you forced her to confess." Alya began.
"What?" Adrien questioned.
"You, " she stated, pointing to her boyfriend, "need to teach your boy some boundaries."
Nino looked between his girlfriend's glare and his best friend's confused face.
"How bad?' he asked.
"Badly!" Alya shouted, "Adrien, you cannot just go up to a girl and…cuddle with her!"
"You guys do it." he pouted.
"We're dating! Yeah; I'll hug Mari, but I won't do it for more then a minute, unless one of us are upset about something." Alya confessed, "Do I cuddle with you?"
Adrien shook his head.
"And there's a reason for that! You're my friend, but there's also a limit on what you can do to a friend." she began to explain, "If I suddenly started to cuddle you, what would you think?"
"That something was wrong?" the model asked.
She nodded at the answer. "Anything else?" she questioned.
"Something happened to Nino?" he spoke up, confused.
"What if….I said 'no' and that I just wanted to hold you?" Alya asked, "Does that make you uncomfortable?"
"Well….you're with Nino and I don't see you that way." he replied.
"What do you think that everyone else would think?" she pushed.
"That I was helping a friend?" he answered, confused.
"No!" she said, abruptly, "They would think I was cheating on Nino, with you."
"How often were these cuddles?" Nino asked, butting into the conversation.
"Enough for him to kiss her on the cheeks or slide a peck on the lips and just smile about it." Alya stated, aggravated.
Nino banged his head on the lunch table.
"Okay. I see what I'm working with here." Nino began, "Adrien, remember when we staged that intervention for Chloe?"
Adrien frowned as he tried to remember what Nino was talking about.
"When you realized she had feelings for you." he stated.
"Ooooh. Yeah." Adrien spoke, "That was a weird day."
"You're Chloe." Nino announced.
"What?" the model cried out.
"You became too touchy." Nino spoke, before taking a bite of his sandwich.
Adrien's face paled and he brought his head into his hands.
Why you gotta hug me
Like that every time you see me?
Why you always making me laugh
Swear you're catching feelings
"Here's the issue with that." his best friend continued, "You knew you didn't like Chloe, but she was a friend. You grew up with her and were close, but you had to tell her to back off because you didn’t like her that way, right?"
Adrien nodded in agreement.
"Marinette did like you. Before, you became all….touchy." Nino concluded, making his buddy frown, "She probably didn't mind you touching her. She liked the attention you were giving her."
Nino looked to Alya for help.
With a nod, she spoke, "My girl had no clue what you felt for her. She wasn't sure if she was a friend or like….you're secret girlfriend. So, she confessed."
"That’s what happens when you give someone too much attention. Same reason why Chloe screamed at you for not saying something sooner. You were too nice." Nino spoke again.
"So, Mari really liked me?" Adrien questioned.
I loved you from the start
So it breaks my heart
"Yes!" they shouted.
"Also, you need to work on your rejections." Alya said, before sipping her drink.
"What did he say?" Nino groaned.
"He said 'There's nothing wrong with what we have. We're friends.' Well, more or less." she summarized.
"She remembered?" he whispered, shocked.
"As far as I know, you're her first crush. First crushes tend to be remembered. So those words are something she will always remember and most likely, when she has a daughter who is going through heartbreak, she'll tell them what you said to her." Alya shrugged.
The model groaned, "But she was fine."
"She went home and cried all night!" Marinette's best friend shouted, "She liked you so much that she had your birthday and Christmas gifts ready for next year!"
Adrien blushed, liking the fact she cared that much about him.
"You know what she did?" she questioned, "She threw them in the trash after you broke her heart."
He immediately frowned, knowing he hurt Marinette badly. He didn't like that he had gotten her upset and angry with him.
"Well, now we know how to fix this." Nino smiled.
"Oh, there is no fixing what he fucked up!" Alya declared, causing him to frown harder.
"What?" Nino questioned.
"Mari went on a trip during the summer just to get away from him." Alya sighed.
"Th-That's not true! " the model declared, "She was pulling away, but…. I wanted to ask her to join me for the summer to a tropical photoshoot, but she was already gone. I just wanted my friend back!"
"No! There is sooooo much wrong with that sentence!" the reporter stated, "Nino, remember when everyone thought they broke up?"
"People thought we were dating?" Adrien questioned.
"The whole school!" Marinette's friend cried out, "They were shocked when she showed up with her new boyfriend. People thought she cheated on you or something! You looked like you were about to cry!"
Adrien winced.
"You ran away when she said she dating him." Alya said.
"You did cry then, Bro." Nino spoke.
When you say I'm just a friend to you
'Cause friends don't do the things we do
Everybody knows you love me too
Tryna be careful with the words I use
I say it 'cause I'm dying to
I'm so much more than just a friend to you
Adrien sighed as he heard her song play in his head.
"Back to 'Hell Week'." Alya spoke up, "You told Mari that you were friends, so, she treated you like all her other friends. You lost your touchy privileges and the right to cuddle her."
Nino sighed, understanding where this was going.
"Bro, you told her you were fine with what you had." the DJ spoke up.
"Yeah." Adrien said.
"That you were friends." Nino stated.
"Yeah?" Adrien asked, confused.
"Friends don't do that kind of stuff so she stopped letting you. When did you realize you liked her?" Nino explained.
"When she kissed that guy, in front of me, and she called me 'just a friend'." he said, sadly.
Alya laughed loudly, as his best friend groaned. Alya pointed at him and shouted, "KARMA!!!"
"What?" Adrien asked.
"Do you know how many times people asked you about Mari, either cause they were interested or just curious, and you told them 'She's just a friend.'!" she continued laughing.
"Maybe I can fix this?" Adrien spoke.
Alya immediately stopped laughing.
"You have seen all the Disney movies, right?" she asked.
"Yes." he replied, not seeing how it had to do with their conversation.
"You're Hans in this sitch, right now." the reporter spoke.
"What?" Adrien asked, confused.
"You led my girl around. You whispered all these sweet things, promises, treated her special and when she wanted 'true love's kiss'….you basically said 'If only somebody loved you'."
"No!" the model shouted.
"That guy." Alya continued, pointing in the direction of the bakery, "He's Kristoff. He said 'Fuck everything; I want her!"
"Alya." Nino spoke, hoping to cool the scene.
"He left his family, in the states, to transfer here and be with her, after three months! He called her last night and tried to convince her parents to let them have an apartment together! They literally asked him where he would live. He said a studio, but that if Marinette moved in with him, he'd look for a three bedroom so they have their privacy and she has a place to work. That's why they are over there for lunch and not here now. They wanted to speak with his dad. That boy is trying to wife her up! He's in this for the long haul!" Alya exclaimed, "Face it; you're not getting a second chance."
Marinette quickly ran over to lunch table with Damian not that far behind her.
"Alya!" she cried out.
"So?" Alya asked, eyeing the two.
"My parents said yes!" she yelled.
"They're letting you move in…together?" Adrien questioned.
"On a trial basis." Marinette shrugged, "But yes!"
"Father had no problem paying for an apartment that allows Marinette to feel safe and comfortable." Damian stated.
"How trial?" asked Alya.
"I can stay over Friday and weekends, but weekdays I have to be home. I can still go with Damian afterschool to work on homework and commissions, but we have to eat lunch and dinner with them." Mari smiled.
"You sure it's not too much, too soon?" Nino questioned, earning Damian's glare.
"No." Marinette frowned, "I like the idea. I don't have to worry about being too loud when my parents are trying to sleep and waking them up with my sewing machine. I know I eventually want to move out of the bakery and this is a good way to see if I can handle it."
"I'll look for apartments later today and send them to you to see hat you approve of." Damian interjected.
"I don't mind. It'll be your apartment." Marinette spoke.
"Our apartment, Angel. You deserve a say." he replied, kissing her head.
'Smooth.' thought Nino, 'Yep. My boy is fucked.' as Marinette cuddled into her boyfriend's arms.
"Okay." she smiled.
"Once we sign the lease, we can go shopping together." Damian continued.
'He has no idea what he's in for.' Alya smiled.
"That'll be fun!" Marinette cried, "I don't have any serious commissions right now. I can look up vegetarian recipes and write them down. We can taste test them together!"
'It's like they skipped dating and got married!' Adrien sulked, as Damian smiled at Marinette.
Nino and Alya winced as Adrien rested his head on the table.
Marinette turned to offer them a visit, but saw Adrien face down.
"Adrien, are you okay?" she asked, concerned.
"He ate something from he cafeteria for the first time." Nino interjected.

15. trembling hands (from this list by creativichee: link)
It’s here. Revenge’s first proper game. The hall hums from the excitement of the crowd as Ed scans the other team, cataloguing weaknesses as they warm up. The brace in the other line-up looks slow to close the inside line, and the triangles break at the seam. The pivots look sharp, though, quick with their star passes. So Revenge will need to be on guard for those—
”Nervous?”
”Me? Pfft, nah.” By now Ed’s lost count of how many games he’s played throughout the years. Of course he’s not fucking nervous.
So when Stede slots his fingers in-between Ed’s and the trembling of his hand ceases, it must be something else making him shake.
”Yeah, me neither,” Stede says, leaning into Ed’s side. ”Now, scared to death? Terrified at the prospect of utter humiliation? A touch nauseous? Absolutely.”
Ed barks out a laugh and feels his shoulders relax. Okay so, maybe he’s a teeny tiny bit tense. He lets Stede pull him into a hug, and the familiar feel of Stede’s body and the scent of his sweat instantly calms him down.
”We’re gonna do great, Ed.” The excited whisper against his neck fills Ed with confidence, makes him want to show just how good they can be with this team. With each other. He squeezes Stede’s sides.
”Yeah, ’course we are.” Ed drops a kiss to Stede’s shoulder, whispers back: ”Thanks, love.”
(Look what I found in my inbox. So I did write that sequel, after all. First part here.)
Obi-Wan looks at the Zabrak…what was his name? Darth Maul. The one he cut in half and left for dead. But apparently the Sith are made from sterner stuff. And now here they are again, Sith and Jedi, with Obi-Wan helpless at Masul’s feet.
Obi-Wan slowly gets up and pulls out his other lightsaber. Made in secrecy while Anakin was escorting Sentor Amidala to Naboo. He’d heard a whisper in the night and followed it to its source deep in the temple. A single golden lightsaber crystal, with an aura of possibility around it. For some reason, Obi-Wan has never told anyone about it. The 212th know, of course, it’s saved their lives more than once. But they’d followed his lead and never mentioned it to another soul.
Now, Obi-Wan stands here. He ignites the blade and golden light illuminates the gloom. The Sith in front of him feels wrong. He is kept together only by hate, by some kind of dark magic. And Obi-Wan is sure that no matter what happens next, on the Sith’s path waits only misery. Unless…
Obi-Wan stands here with his blade of gold, his opponent shrouded in darkness, and knows he must make a choice.
