TW: SA, DV As a survivour of abùsè (s*xual aśśuIts and domestic vìoIenće), (Sorry - I have to censor it, because insta doesn't like me) @tamepunk's words couldn't be more true. The cycle survives and thrives on others being quiet - the victims and onlookers. Many can't speak out or react in ways that they'd like to, at the time, for fear for their safety - but if you can speak up and feel ready to & feel safe enough to do so - I encourage you to. I had to fake smile, be submissive, make myself small & walk on eggshells for 20 years so my abùser wouldn't get even more aggressive with/at me. I have cut ties and just like Grace refusing to forgive Scott Morrison for not keeping his word, for defending & protecting abùśerś - I refuse to forgive mine. I don't have to forgive in order to move on & to live a happy life (FINALLY! I'm finally happy & free to be myself). Thank you, @tamepunk for staying true to yourself, your values & for continuing to stand up for survivours. This is why you were our #AustralianOnTheYear and those critising your actions are showing their privilege & outing themselves of not knowing why you were chosen in the first place. Never change, Grace - you're a national treasure and an inspiration.
