they won’t be smiling for long…
transfem susie is the first deltarune headcanon that really jumped out to me / screamed at me from the game, particularly during chapter 4, but I think that’s been building up all along. Susie is a very tenderhearted and caring girl looking for someone - anyone - to give her a chance. She immediately clings onto Kris. At the same time, she’s perceived as “wrong” by society — alienated from people at large because she’s seen as ill-fitting and scary and implicitly violent, despite her just being a kid who likes to have fun (and a kid who needs care). She was seen as a threat, and to cope she became one, in the sense of bullying Kris (who is additionally the odd one out as a human).
She wants to be a hero, but not a hero in the way society might expect her to be. She’s The Girl, and she seems to be touched by that label being the label that the prophecy gives her.
In combination with Kris being canonically trans/nb (my personal headcanons about Kris tending towards Kris being either AMAB trans neutral or nonbinary transfem) and if you add in headcanons about transfem!Ralsei and Lancer also being trans (I’m partial to tboy Lancer flavor, because…I mean, he’s Lancer) in conjunction with this one, you can kind of get why she immediately glomped onto all of them over the course of chapter one. They’re her people, in a sense.
