Fun stuff is under the cut! Today I’ll talk about their daily activities, including jobs, hobbies, etc.
The girls don’t have to pay rent/a mortgage to the Manor since they own it outright. don’t ask how, I haven’t come up with it yet lmao. They do still have to feed themselves and pay for utilities, so they have jobs, most of which they do from home.
Leaf makes and sells clothes and jewelry on this universe’s equivalent of etsy.. which is just etsy lmao. They’re all custom and made-to-order so they sell for quite a bit. She also makes clothes for herself and everyone else in the house. She’s kind of a fabrics snob and will sometimes blow money on expensive fabrics, much to the chagrin of the girls. Whoops. She’s considering opening a boutique in one of the small spaces downtown, but you actually need inventory for that, and that would take a while.
Faye maintains the library in the manor (which takes a while) and restores old books. There’s a pretty big market for old, restored classics and she could easily make $100-$500 from a single book. It’s pretty time consuming and sometimes expensive, but she enjoys it. She also gets plenty of peace and quiet in the library since Annika is really the only one who spends time in there (other than Faye of course). She also spends some time on literature-related forums writing book reviews and giving recommendations. Leaf said she could start a website dedicated to it, but Faye’s not sure she wants to.
Oxalia maintains a garden behind the manor and also, with the help of the others, restored the greenhouse. O has, let’s say, a way with plants, so her yields are always plentiful and her produce always delicious. Every so often, she’ll set up a table at the farmer’s market and makes a good amount selling leftover fruits and veggies. The stuff she doesn’t sell gets put into salads, canned, or turned into jams. Around 85% of the food the girls eat is grown right in O’s garden! Only 85 because Leaf has a proclivity for snack foods.
Mabel is the house mom and house cook. She makes breakfast, dinner, sometimes lunch, and snacks and tea for anyone who wants it. Mabel doesn’t have any babs of her own but takes pride in taking care of everyone in the house. She likes to try out recipes and test them on the girls, usually Oxalia since she’s usually nearby (the kitchen has a door leading to the backyard). She also likes experimenting with ingredients and blogging about it. She has a successful (in her mind) food blog with nearly a thousand readers. She gets a little money from ad revenue from her blog, but the few sponsorships for food and other kitchen-related brands gives her a nice bit of dosh to add to the house’s pool of money.
Annika is the newest addition to the house and doesn’t have a specific role. She just helps out where she can-- chopping veggies in the kitchen, handing Oxalia garden tools, browsing the shelves of the library, or listening to Leaf blab on about something while she sews. The girls were doing ok without her, but now that she’s here, they couldn’t imagine not having the constant helping hand by their sides.
