I have seen Drarry fans unironically take the passage describing how happy Draco looks at the "your next, mudbloods!" scene as evidence for Harry loving Draco.
I think they know that Draco bullies Harry (and Ron and Hermione) severely and regularly, but somehow they take Harry reacting to that bullying as Harry noticing Draco and thus loving him somehow. Like at that point just tell me that you ship Severus/James too, don't they also react to and notice each other?(since apparantly the reason for why someone notices someone else is no longer relevant.) Doesn't Severus call James a "quidditch hero"? Sounds like a crush to me 🤷♂️.
but I will never understand those who try to scream their lungs out on Tumblr just to prove that they were “always meant for each other” while desperately trying to prove every point they want to believe and speak it.
This is the main reason I can't tolerate Drarry but can read other toxic ships and frankly impossible ships if I'm in the mood, because most of those ships don't have a large percentage of it's fandom believing that it's actually canon.
For real though! That’s why Drarry or even Dramione makes zero sense to me. Both ships are the total opposites of each other. They’re rivals for a reason, not lovers. Harry has been abused, but he’s filled with love and compassion that cannot rub the same way with Draco. Draco’s a narcissistic bully who’s in a family that has nothing but ego and cowardice. Meanwhile, Harry’s brave and noble. There’s no way the two of them would ever fall in love. It’s completely out of character for the both of them.
What I can’t stand in the Drarry fandom is that they’re desperate to act like Drarry is the “superior” ship and force it down people’s throats. One big factor is that “Harry’s obsessed with Draco because he can’t stop watching his every move in his sixth year.” Well, yeah? Because he has a feeling that the prat is a Death Eater and he was right. The saying “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” goes every far in the HBP. People just immediately assume and go too far with their “points” to prove like they’re trying to desperately gather the evidence and actually believe it’s canon. That’s what I can’t stand about it. And meanwhile, Harry would never yearn for someone who’s that toxic. Like I’ve said before, he’s filled with love. And if he’s made the choice to be good through the hell he’s been through, then that alone says everything about how much he stands in love. But he will never stand with the enemy or anyone who’s treated him wrong. Like Snape for example. Trust doesn’t come to him willingly. People have to earn his trust and respect and because of his abusive trauma, he barely trusts adults which can deter into fellow peers. Note on his small circle with only Ron and Hermione. He’s spent the most time with them than anyone else in all of his years at Hogwarts.
And it comes with the old, “he bullies him so that means he loves him”. This fandom gets it backwards. Just because Draco’s bullied him doesn’t mean that he loves him. That kid’s nasty. He’s a Malfoy and Malfoy’s are always centred about themselves because their wealth matters more than the ones “below them”. To me, none of it makes sense using that excuse that Draco loves Harry when he clearly hates him. Exactly!
For real. I cannot stand it. It really irks me and it makes sense though, because it’s a toxic relationship and that support for that relationship alone is toxic in itself. I see where it comes from. They’re toxic themselves and have this fixation on toxic ships. Now, I’ve seen actually some decent Drarry shippers which wow what a miracle they’re decent. But the majority of them? Good lord. They scream into the world just to prove their point and act like canon doesn’t exist. Like dream all you want, but canon is canon and canon will never change with what is so.
Yep. It’s sad to see it being pushed so much, and they are toxic about it too. They dismiss other ships too and are rude about it. Like whoa, whoa, ship who you want but there’s no need to desperately prove that “Draco loved Harry”. Which to me, I don’t see a single thread of love embedded between them. I really don’t. One’s born in selfishness while the other’s gone through hell but still chooses love. How does that work? The only “way” to “make” it work is to rewrite them where they become your own OCs so it’s pointless to believe that it’s canon. That’s how far they go that they truly believe it’s canon and act like they know Harry and Draco’s character inside and out when they don’t. Like nobody’s obligated to stick with canon, but if you’re being toxic about it, mind what you’re saying in public. The toxicity is rancid.
Well said anon! ⚡️
