The Nitty-Gritty: Buckeye Mountains Gravel Road Ride
Date and Time: This Sunday, August 31 at 9:00 AM
Carpool: The SBW caravan and carpool is set to depart from the shop at 7:30 AM.
Location: Peebles High School, located here.
Distance: The full route is 70 miles (approx. 30 miles of gravel, and 40 miles of paved roads). We decided to post a bail-out route that is 40 miles, for those wanting the option. The bail-out will only include 8 miles of gravel (including the creek crossing) and some really nice roads. For those of you who have been considering using a road bike (rather than a cyclocross/gravel bike), or are intimidated by the distance, this is a really good back-up plan for you!
Food and Water Stops: There are two stops along the full route. One at mile 17.5 and another at 39. If you are doing the bail-out route, you will have the same first water stop at mile 17.5.
Navigation: Everyone will be provided with a cue sheet and map. The files for your GPS units can found here: full-route and bail-out route.
What to bring? Tubes, patch kits, inflation, tools, on-the-bike food, water, and money. REMEMBER you and your friends are the only support that exists on this ride. Come prepared!
Rain or Shine: The nice thing about riding on gravel roads is that they are actually pretty ideal in the rain. In fact, the last time we road this ride it was raining! We will be out there rain or shine! In the case of serious lightning, look for an update from us on Facebook.
If you are new to gravel road riding or are simply looking for a "day-venture" this is a great ride to enjoy with some friends. We look forward to riding it with you! If you have any questions, shoot us an email at [email protected]
