Giving it a try... a Wild Eye Releasing Double bill of very rude dirty comedies, with.... SWAMP HEAD (an early release from Wild Eye) It’s a horror comedy about white trash folk getting attacked by a floating severed head covered in swamp grass... yeah that is pretty much it. 

Endearingly disgusting and stupid. Aware it is done but doesn't ruin its own jokes. A gross out spoof with no budget at all that is still honest to the b movie monster films it is homaging.  Kids , who are obviously not kids, try and figure out what is killing the town folk only to find out the monster is amazingly stupid. Not sure which is more stupid the two “kids” or the monster.

Great AWFUL dialogue and nonsense jokes that make the rude parts seem so harmless. Like you just can't hate an idiot now can you?  .. Can you? 

Ok Swamp Head does have a character that is handicapped and is constantly pooping... that is pretty hard to forgive.  But other than that when you have lines like “Fucking off won’t be necessary young lady” you know your writers are stupid but still care. ... I think... Oh and that fat nerdy kid with tits that goes on forever... yeah ok somethings are just rude.  

BUT then there is a robot doing the robot as people get attacked by a floating man eating severed head... so all is forgiven.

Before this I had just watched SPANISH CHAINSAW MASSACRE  (also released by Wild Eye) which is a much better made and polished Spanish horror comedy that is TOTALLY disgusting but its gross out disgusting misses the endearing part making the gross out more shocking but less fun. I love innocently disgusting films more. Even though you won't see many movies with the BALLS that Spanish Chainsaw Massacre has.  A cross between the Dutch comedy metalheads from New Kids Nitro and The horror crew of the Cock face killer gone Euro style. However if you don't know what New Kids Nitro or Cock Face Killer are... well shit son this conversation could go on forever and get really fucked up.. as is Spanish Chainsaw Massacre.  Try and conceive a metal head crew making an rather artsy euro comedy with extremely gore based and purposely offensive content jam packed movie. Maybe it is because Spanish Chainsaw Massacre is much better made than Swamp Head that you can't forgive the rude parts because you feel they should know better... then you just realise pubic hair and jizz jokes is just art when you think of it in a true European point of you... ok maybe not. You won't forget it but you spent more time just saying ew then actually laughing... which sounds prudish of me so I just dare you to watch .. go on .. do it.

I love the fact that they market this beer as “Fertilizer for the hop lover’s soul” because it’s so damn fitting. Normally someone with facial hair as terrible as mine has to be careful where and how much fertilizer we purchase so we don’t find our name on any kind of fucking terror list but luckily Swamp Head sent this one out to me along with one other bottle so I should be safe (Thanks for making it untraceable Swamp Head…). For a beer that clocks in at 10% ABV I must say this shit is as smooth as silk with little to no alcohol present and honestly the only thing that could make me happier would be if Brock Turner had 13 consecutive strokes, shit blood for the rest of his life, and was forced to eat nothing but aids and herpes cum for breakfast every morning. By the way, fuck that kid and his asshole shit eating year book photo that keeps being used on the internet. He deserves to have an elephant dildo permanently inserted into his shit pipe. End rant. This is my first beer by these guys and I am loving it so far because it’s nice to have a beer that takes a style that most breweries are using to punish your taste buds and have it be perfectly balanced and crushable. This has a great floral hop start with a nice bitterness before a light alcohol flavor mixing in afterwards without overpowering the taste while a nice balanced malt flavor mixes in at the end making this a superbly crafted brew. As terrible as swamps are and as amazing as head is, this brewery has proved to me in one beer how great those two words coming together can be because this beer is perfect for the hop lovers and hop heads of the world so make sure you grab this if you can. As for those of you looking to learn the password to get into the bastard drinking crew I would have to say this is the perfect introduction to those bitter little green nuggets of heaven because of how balanced this is so pick up a bomber now! Cheers!

There are a few things that I miss dearly about Gainesville, Florida. One of those is the local beers by Swamp Head Brewery: especially Midnight Oil and Wild Night.

Luckily, I have an amazing friend who sent me this gallon jug of Midnight Oil for my birthday. Thank you Jenny!

As soon as i popped it open I felt like I was back at The Top with Natalie and all those amazing people. Some of the best times of my life, for sure.

Special Release Barley Wine Ale @ Swamp Head tomorrow

Need something to get you through the middle of the week? I know I do, so you'll find me packed into Swamp Head brewery's tasting room tomorrow at 4 p.m. to try their special release American barley wine ale created in collaboration with my hometown favorite, Cigar City Brewing.

The beer will be available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wetlands tasting room, with 750mL bottles selling for $15.

Up for grabs are Swamp Head's Roosevelt, an American barley wine ale brewed with pecans, and Cigar City's Church On a Hill, a barley wine-style ale. Both styles will also be available on draft. Find out more at swamphead.com

Forgettably Delicious, but in a good way

                Some days you just need a pizza. Fortunately, the newest Piesano’s (www.Piesanostogo.com) recently opened close by at the intersection of Archer and Tower Rd. The restaurant was pretty non-descript seeming to be an amalgamation of clean Italian decor, sports bar, and atypical Americana décor. It was simple, clean, comfortable but not very memorable. Upon entering I checked the tap selection, and saw a positive sign, a Swamp Head Big Nose tap handle. Settling into our booth I ordered a cold Big Nose, and looked over the menu. It ranged from their signature stone-fired pizza, to calzones, to some classic Italian dishes like Lasagna.

                My party decided on an appetizer of BBQ wings to start things off, and I decided on a house salad and a broccoli rabe and sausage calzone to finish it. Oddly the salad was served before the appetizer. It was pretty run of the mill combination of romaine and iceberg lettuce accompanied with fresh sliced carrots. The Italian house dressing was tart, oily and sour. It was an interesting flavor profile that I am still on the fence about. In a unique/odd choice the same dressing was used on their freshly baked rolls that were both crusty and fluffy at the same time.

                The wings were served, and we dug in hungrily. At the first bite I could tell that the wings were unique to what I have had in Gainesville. They had more in common with actual BBQ than Buffalo wings. They had a grilled flavor rather than fried, and were quite substantial and meaty seeming to be almost one half larger than the average wing. The BBQ sauce was average, but the way they were cooked more than made up for it.

                The main event arrived next, the broccoli rabe and sausage calzone. It is very rare that I see any type of green on a menu, let alone such a spicy and bitter green as rabe. However, when paired with a sweet Italian sausage, the two harmonize and create a delicious combination. The crust of the calzone was cruchy on the outside and yeasty on the inside. The center was cheesy and creamy while the rabe added a spicy bite to it. The sausage and broccoli played well in this representation, balancing the bitter of the greens with the savory slightly sweetness of the sausage.

                In retrospect a majority of the meal was forgettable , or that type of “interesting” that you say because you don’t want to hurt feelings. However, since then I have caught myself craving the delicious breads and crusts of their baked entrees, even the salad dressing covered crusty rolls. I was very impressed by the calzone, and believe this is my new go to pizza place. If you are looking for a good pizza or calzone look Piesano’s up.
