This large swamp lily can reach a height of 3m, a single leaf can be as long as 2 m. The white flowers are also lovely fragrant. It is now widely used in urban gardens along the eastern coast of Australia.

In my friend’s beautiful garden the fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers of Crinum × powellii (swamp lily, Cape lily, Indian elephant flower) greet visitors. This bulbous perennial flowers in late summer and is a hybrid of two South African species Crinum bulbispermum (Orange River lily) and Crinum moorei (Natal lily).
