Actually I will elaborate a little (re: mettaswatch) plus other ships I like because I've been turning it around in my head a bit

Mettaton being an awkward bridge between swatchmanager and spamtenna (gee Swatch how come you get a bf AND a gf), Spamton is pissed at Swatch getting to date a lightner but he does like Mettaton enough to project all his hatred of the situation onto Swatch instead

Swatch and Spamton obviously have a mutual dislike/hatred going on, but I could see Mettaton being besties with Tasque Manager, Tenna, AND Spamton so he forces Swatch and Spamton into a get-along shirt so that his friend and his boyfriend don't strangle each other when he's not looking. Tasque Manager and Tenna don't really do anything but watch this happen from the sidelines like "alright I sure hope Mettaton diffuses this situation because it will make the next group meetup really really awkward for us"

i'm not much of a swatchmanager sort but i do think there is a lot of juice there. new arrival at the palace post-big-shot-era who doesn't know much about said era beyond idle gossip 🤝 longtime fixture of the palace staff that initially gets the new arrival smitten with their general prim demeanor but who said new arrival quickly realizes is perhaps more involved with said gossip than she'd initially expected... what? basement? there's no basement here. ect.
