Sweet Peas @ Ightham NT Garden by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Few annual flowers have the lasting appeal and bucolic beauty of sweet peas. Twining lazily around a rustic trellis, they seem the very antithesis of our busy lives. With their seductive fragrance, sweet peas make great flowers for gardens

It's time for another update on our #greenfatfingerssweetpeasjourney. Our 3 batch of #sweetpeas sown in Dec 2017, Jan 2019 and Feb 2019 from left to right. They are doing very well. First batch is a little leggy due to lack of light. The last batch is doing so much better and looking strong. Can't wait to have them in the ground in mid March. I have pinched all the #sweetpeas to encourage more side shoots = more flowers. 😍😍😍. . The steps are: 1. Slightly remove a small bit of the hard shell using a Stanley type handy knife. Do be careful and not cut yourself. This will allow the water to get in to help #germination. 2. Found a small glass bottle and wool lying around so decide to recycle them. I've placed the wool at the bottom of the glass bottle. 3. Transfer the seeds into the bottle. 4. Spray it wet with diluted liquid seaweed (5ml liquid seaweed mixed with 1 litre of water). 5. Cover the lid slighty and keep at about 15°C (59°F). We place ours by the window sill. . We give it a daily spray and 1 week on, they have sprouted and ready to be planted into the sowing tray or pots 😍😍😍 in a few days time. I find that sowing indoors from October to February give us an earlier blooms this way. Happy sowing!!! 😍😍😍 . This method seems to give the best germination rate 😊. These are Heirloom Mixed sweet peas from @thompsonmorgan1855. They smell so heavenly! 😍😍😍 It is a cheery mixture of smaller flowered heirloom (Grandiflora) types in a wide range of colours. Sweet Pea 'Heirloom Mixed' has a wonderful fragrance that is characteristic of these old fashioned varieties. . #mygarden #greenfatfingerssweetpeasjourney #sweetpeasboutique #gardeners #gardeningisfun #gardening101 #gardenersofinstagram #gardeningtips #gardeninglife #gardensofinstagram #spring #gardenlovers #gardenflowers #flowers #gardening #flower #garden #flowerstagram #sweetpea #gardenlife #gardens #nature #flower_igers #gardener #flowerpower #flowersofinstagram #gardenlove #flowermagic (at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh) https://www.instagram.com/p/BulOxaJlZp0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1p06cwulcfzge
An update to our #greenfatfingerssweetpeasjourney. 3rd batch of seed have all germinated and potted except just one seed. This method really gives the best rate of germination. 😍😍😍. We also posted a photo of our 2nd batch of #sweatpeas sown in Jan 2019. . The steps are: 1. Slightly remove a small bit of the hard shell using a Stanley type handy knife. P.S. Remember to keep your #sweatpeas in a cool and bright area otherwise it will become leggy and die if it gets too warm! . This is my second batch of #sweatpeas as the ones planted in Oct 2018 didn't make it. I didn't give it enough light and it became too leggy. Most of them have died as I've placed it in an area that is too warm. . On a positive note, look at how much these sweet peas have grown since I've planted them beginning of #2019!!! Remember! Light and cool area! It's now time to give it a pinch!!! Pinching the main stem will encourage more side shoots hence more flowers. To pinch sweet pea plants, wait until they are 4 to 8 inches high. Take the growing tip between your forefinger and thumbnail and snip the growing tip off using your nail as your blade. If you pinch it the second time, you will have a very bushy plant. 😊😊😊 Can't wait for summer 2019! 😍😍😍 . These are Heirloom Mixed sweet peas from @thompsonmorgan1855 grown.
