My pet peeve about swedish pronunciation/spelling is when ppl are pronouncing loan words like shorts or show and it becomes... SKJORTS. CHOV. Or ships instead of chips because putting a t sound in there just doesn't come naturally to us. You know, you've heard them all. And why is that? We have the english sh-sound in swedish (but not the english ch), like the word tjärn... Also, the sj sound is so hard to explain to english speakers because they don't even have it! how do you even do that
a prime example of the struggle of sj-sounds in swedish. i hear you buddy, and i suffer to.
although this ask also confused me at bit. because as someone with a stockholm accent, i must say, i do prounance the loanwords in swedish like this:
and i agree it is confusing when we switch the sj-sounds from english around in loanwords, mostly when i later am going prounance them correctly in english later haha.
my pet peeve is when we take french loanwords (most loaned back in the 18th century) and they have lots of sj-sounds going on in them, but, the spelling DOES NOT TELL US THAT. or at least, there is only a vague hint of it. it is soooo hard too spell, because….. the swedish academy have for some reason swedified the spelling in all BUT clearly marking the sj-sounds.

i JUST do not understand why we swedified the rest of the french loanwords spelling (which is a GOOD thing) but did not like….. insert some swedish spelling rules sj-sounds to show of were we today in swedish insert sj-sounds? like i know several of these words OFFICALLY have a swedish sj-sound spelling (like rs) but like….. it is so hidden. i want the spelling rules to show it clearly. *grumbles about always misspelling french loan words to swedish’
