I know you’ve talked about renfield and where to read tales, but what are the not horrible, not homophobic ones? I’m intrigued.

The BEST place to start is Tim Lucas’ The Book Of Renfield! 

ALSO Lucas’ has excellent Twin Peaks takes (he wrote 2 really great articles back in the 90s, one of which was about FWWM as an underrated masterpiece back when it was still being wildly shunned) 

and Book Of Renfield has all that empathy and understanding, topped off with gorgeously written Twin Peaksy magical realism. I can’t recommend it enough.

(that being said Renfield isn’t written as explicitly gay in this one or in any of the other Renfield books by other authors)

Five Thousand Miles of Silence by sweetasscas

Summary: Of all the ridiculous situations Dean Winchester had ever found himself in, this one took the prize: standing in his living room dressed in nothing but boxer-briefs and one sock, watching a strange girl pass out on his couch.

Comments: 8/10. Dean and Cas bond at first with stories about rebellious siblings, but they end up together. Cas is asexual, which is shown in the fic, but the aromantic Dean tag isn’t really shown all that much, or maybe it is and I didn’t notice. Cas is a estranged from his rich wealthy CEO family, but he ends up owinng them a favor because he has to help Dean, and Raphael sends him on a business trip to Spain. The story is mainly about Dean and Cas trying to make it through not being able to contact each other. Hence the title. It’s interesting that it shows a long distance relationship where they can’t contact each other. But just a tad unrealistic, I mean 2 and a half years for a fairly new couple? Anyway, no one writes fanfics to be realistic and I like that they are devoted enough to stay together through that. Oh and the injured Sam tag is not serious, he got into an accident and had to stay with Dean during the recovery.

LOVED this book, and yeah, shock and horror...

I had no one to talk about it with, so I started looking around online and was shocked to see so many people who were offended by Bradbury’s mention of “minorities” and a PC-climate being a leading cause of the out of control censorship.  Maybe he’s got some troubling political views that they’re familiar with but I’m unaware of? Either way, I don’t think he was saying that we should be insensitive to minorities. Rather, I thought he was making a statement about any and all groups, and how policing can backfire when knee-jerk group-think replaces an individual’s will to learn, reflect and debate. 

Like the quote from the central antagonist...

“Coloured people don't like Little Black Sambo? Burn it. White people don't feel good about Uncle Tom's Cabin? Burn it. Someone's written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Burn the book.”

Sorry to ramble. I just really got lost in this book for the last two days. :)

I think maybe the answer lies in the middle. You work your ass off, almost obsessively. Maybe take time to do stuff you enjoy now, occasionally, if only to take a break from the stuff you have to do. Work hard, yeah, but also take a minute to enjoy it.

It’s probably gonna have to be something like that, because all my past decisions have led to a situation where the shop is paying for my living expenses, part of my parents’ living expenses, and my uncle’s living expenses, which pays for his wife, his sister, his two grown ass children who shouldn’t be sucking off him me anymore, and his grandson (AC’s son).

I mean I could just ditch them all, but I’m just not that kind of person.

In the last few years I’ve been in this state of mind where I’m waiting for some family members to die off -- the ones who suck the most financially -- and by then hopefully the shop is super successful and can be sold for a lot of money that I can take off with :D

Chapstick or any lip balm. Don’t know why it works, but it glues the bastards back together and stops the itch/bleeding/irritation.

I’m pretty good at getting other things to stop, but those papercuts are tricky. I usually have Chapstick in my purse :)
