Sweetjay doodles (featuring his badass wife)
Trivia about him: He's unable to open to eyes
Don't let this face fool you. Jay is the owner of several fine brain cells 😂
An update on how Jay is feeling 😁
An update on Jay
Jay is doing much, much better today. He must have reacted poorly to one of the meds he had for his surgery.
My body was starting to nod off to sleep, despite my efforts to stay awake. Knowing this, I tried to cone him up around 3am. He started backing away from it, and the last thing I wanted to do was cause him to spook even worse.
I ended up making a tshirt/basket muzzle combo for him, and he slept in his kennel for a good 3 hours.
So, here's what that looked like, both standing up and in his kennel.
I know that muzzles can look really awful. This kind is really humane and decently comfortable, though. You can look up a greyhound muzzle and see one in detail on various greyhound adoption sites. With the poop guard he has zip-tied in there, it essentially feels equivalent to what a human would feel wearing a face mask. Obviously, there's no seal around it and he can breathe just fine. It keeps him from picking at the stitches.
So, anyway, I'm just kinda sitting here in bed, looking over at my sweet, sleeping pup, and I'm glad we made it through that rough night.
My parents have been a tremendous help. I had to call them in the middle of the night to come help hold him so I could get him ready to go out, or whatever else. Now that he is in his kennel and resting, I feel a lot better about my chances of getting out of this without too big of a flare.
Happy 5th birthday, Jay! 🎉 The past 4 months together have been one heck of a ride, but I wouldn't trade you for anything 🖤
Jay got a bandana for completing his first round of cancer treatment, today! He will have rechecks every 3 months, and a booster vaccine every 6 months for the next 2 years. He has been such a good sport with all of this. He lets the vet and techs do whatever they need to, and he's always happy to see people. I did nothing to teach this sweet boy; he came to me like this. I am so lucky to have him 😊
I have good news about Jay. His biopsy came back and it looks like what they thought might be a lymph node turned out to be a melanoma regrown. It's not great because his cancer is very aggressive, but it also means that the cancer hasn't infiltrated his lymphatic system. He got his first vaccine today as well.
His behavior is a lot better since stopping the trazodone. I also got him a night light next to his kennel. He hasn't sleep startled since I put it there. He's going to be starting fluoxetine on Monday, but I'm feeling hopeful that things will be better.
He was also an absolute gentleman at the vet. He even pranced to the back room with the vet tech.
There was a lovely person in the waiting room who talked to me and said that one of her fosters got aggressive from trazodone. That was very reassuring to hear. And Jay loved the attention he got from them 😁
